Just did a search of this thread and was surprised to not find James Taylor's "Hourglass"
I think this is one of the best recordings of male vocals, and one that I use in evaluation... and overall his best recorded album.

Patty Larkin's stuff is well recorded and interesting music to boot.  James Taylor's Hourglass is a cd that just shows more layers and complexity as you put it on better gear.  I just changed out my Dodd tube amp to Folsom's chip amp for summer listening ( this week it's supposed to stay over 100* in my part of TX).  Hourglass really shows the differences in the two pieces of gear.  It's a great album to learn it's nuances.

Do yourself a favor and check out Anour Brahem's Blue Maqams album on ECM w/ Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette, and Django Bates. Best album find I've had in a long time. His other stuff is good too, especially The Astounding Eyes of Rita, but Blue Maqams is a great listen. Also available as MQA on Tidal if you're into that.

Most welcome, Alex.  As I said, take time to learn it, then put it on another system.  The vocals are very system sensitive as well as much of the percussion.  It's one of a handful that I find useful when evaluating gear.

On another note, this has turned into one of the best resource threads here at AC.  Just a thanks to Alex for keeping this thread current and active.
Regards,
Scott

I've heard several Led Zep II, including a R.L. version, but none I'd call "Outstanding Demo" quality. Some of the others are choices I'm familiar with and agree with the excellence of the recordings.  Which Zeppelin version are you listening to?

The Atlantic R2-535225 re-release.  You got me: it's not a sonic masterpiece but Living Loving Maid does get my toes tapping.  Always a worthwhile criterion.  Speaking of which:

Moe, Hava Nagilah

Bruce Cockburn: The Charity of Night.

Rusted Root Cruel Sun

Kartik Seshadri Illuminations

Ern Dog

Eva Cassidy's Live at Blues Alley is indeed very nice.

Most of her other "studio" albums are pretty well done too.

Steve Tibbetts - Life Of

The latest Steve Tibbetts album is very meditative, probably good for the last song of the evening with the lights very low, but everyone will leave impressed. I have the 24bit - 88.2kHz album from HD Tracks.

Life Of is Stereophile's Record of the Month - 5 stars for performance, 5 stars for sonics
The Stereophile article is a good read: https://www.stereophile.com/content/recording-july-2018-life

"Tibbetts primarily records in his self-built studio, using two microphones, a Mojave and a Neumann, set up to record an acoustic guitar. "They haven't moved in years. Using an unmatched pair seemed like the right thing to do. The Mojave worked well at the 12-string's sound hole, the Neumann made a home looking at the 12th fret." He also resists EQ or compression, the tradeoff being that "the music can sound a little dull, like the speakers are wrapped in muslin."

"This mannered approach has resulted in a soft, glowing sound that manages to capture plenty of detail and character across a deep, wide soundstage. Some moments—as when Anderson adds a deep drum pulse, then moves to a hazy wash of cymbal—will flex your speakers or headphones, and add just the right amount of grunt to keep it interesting."
