If there is any song with an odd instrument used in it for that type of music, post it.

I don't know the correct name for this 3-string fretless instrument so I'm calling it a Japanese banjo.  It's typically used for traditional Japanese music.  I've never heard one used for funk music... the interplay between it and the sax in this tune something else.  BTW; the sax player is pretty kick ass too.

How about a shamisen (three stringed Japanese instrument) for jazz.  Tokyo Groove Jyoshi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHeybe7s_BU

EDIT: Just read the entire thread, pardon Jazzman53 for stealing this (two posts above). At least it is a different exammple.

How about a Shehnai (indian wind instrument) for neo-psychedlia music.  See 4:52 into the video below; fits perfectly for the vibe. This video is so cool, watch it and you will not have to drop acid to be tripping balls. Also going to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard later today. On a farm, its going to be great, totally stoked!

The oddest "instrument" I have heard was years ago watching the band Dredg play a hand saw on one of their more out there tracks. It somehow fit the groove, but quite odd to see. Neo psychedelic rock lends itself to all sorts of possibilities.

We saw BMG on the How to be a Rock Star Tour when they rolled through town. Simply put, this was the best concert I've seen. Not so much the music, though it was stellar, it was the visuals, the experience. That clip only gives a glimpse of what that concert was all about. Look up the full concert and give it a watch. You won't be disappointed. I'd love to see them reprise that tour.

Correct instruments for the type of music, but too many at once.

I actually have an LP of Leon Sash, premier jazz accordianist of the 50's.  I kinda works at times... in an odd way.
