I was just made aware of a 'shootout' involving a Sony DVPS-9000ES that we have modified with our Signature Truth mods.  If you are interested in our work, and especially our mods for the newere Sony 999ES, please check out the thread.

Our Best Unit
Currently, our best unit is the Sony 999ES with Platinum Signature Level Mods.  We are expecting a few units in soon and they are not all spoken for yet.

We are no longer offering tube mods for the Denon 5900 as they have proven to be too complex and costly.  We ARE finallizing mods for the Denon 3910 that I feel will be exceptional, but we are still a couple of weeks from being complete with the first unit.

We can have a new Sony 999ES with full Platinum Level Signature Mods ready to ship in 2-3 weeks time.  That is the best I can do time-wise.

Thanks,

Dan

You may already have interconnects and power cords identified for the ModWright 999ES which you may be ordering.  However, if you are still considering these items, I strongly recommend the Revelation Audio Lab PRECEPT II pure cryo silver source cable furutech for the Sony player pc and Revelation Audio Cryo Silver Paradise interconnects.  Dan carries both.
I purchased a 999ES Platinum mod at the end of October and am very happy that I took Dan's advice to use both with the 999ES.  To my ears, there appears to be a definite and positive synergy when I use these interconnects and pc (on the player).  I am using a VH Audio Flavor 4 (Furo) on the tube power supply.  My other interconnects and speaker wire are Cardas.

P.S.  I also added a VH Audio Flavor 4 (Furo) pc on my preamp.  In my system, this combination definitely kicks it up a notch (over the stock pc with Versa Labs Wood Block).  Interestingly, when I move the Revelation Audio pc to the preamp and the VH Audio Flavor 4 to the 999ES player, the "magic" subsides.  It still sounds very good but not at the pristine level it is with the Revelation Audio pc on the 999ES.  The Revelation Audio appears to be a match made in heaven when used with the 999ES.  Raphael

Very interesting, I am just experimenting with powercords, as for interconnects, I am using silver APL's, and grovers(empress).  I am also hoping dan can make a unit for me with a built in volume control.  Oh, well, I guess I will ahve to be patient, and I hate that.]

I can offer you a player with volume control, but we don't have a R/C volume option yet.  We have R/C for our preamp, but it uses an Alps Blue velvet motorized pot.

I will have the Denon 3910 mods done soon and will be offering new units with mods.

I am sorry that I can't always immediately ship a unit, but we have a lot going on and are still a relatively small shop.

Thanks,

Dan

Still finishing the first...
I am still finishing the first unit.  I am very pleased with the transformer coupled portion of the mod and have compared it to a tubed 5900.  The results were interesting, with the tubed unit having the edge in terms of overall organic sound and musicality, but the 3910 with transformer coupling only at this point is absolutely stunning in terms of clarity and overall presentation.  I am still finallizing a tube design to suit this player.  I believe a different circuit will be used due to the units' different configuration.

I have access to new units and will be offering them fully modified when the mods are complete.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

Thanks for bringing the Audiogon thread to our attention.  I got so caught up reading it yesterday afternoon that my wife nearly sent me packing -  it was our designated decorate the tree and house day.

While I haven't become a Modwright customer yet, I for one greatly appreciate the craftsmanship and commitment to excellence that the modification specialists like you, Bill Baker at Response Audio, Alex Peychev at APL, and the many quality manufacturer's here at Audio Circle provide to their customers.  :D

Things can get a little persnickity at times, but hey we're all in search of great musical sound reproduction.  Best of luck with your new preamp offering and quest for digital nirvana.

Cheers and best wishes for a great holiday.

I am glad that you enjoyed reading the thread...I usually get in trouble around tree-decorating time too, but this year I was good ;).  Having a little one running around at the Holidays does improve one's 'focus' ;).

I appreciate your support.

Player with a dvi or hdmi output
What dvd cd players does dan offer or plan to offfer that uses a  dvi output. Id like to go to a reference level redbook player but use one box to play dvds as well.

i believe the denon 3910 does, not sure about the sony's, but i dont think from reading above that the denon tube mod is ready yet. thanks all.

Dan, does your price on the website for the 999ES include the player, or just the mods?

PS: I already know Dan does great work - I've had his PA-3 for 3+ years, and I'm still thrilled with it.

Re Mod on DVD with DVI
The Denon 3910 has HDMI outputs which are 10 bit, and superior to the 8 bit rate of DVI.

Dan -- what mods do you do to the video side of the Denon 3910?  Any improvements to be expected there?

Thanks, and happy holidays.
