B135 and grounding tuner AM antenna
« on: 22 Jun 2016, 04:52 pm »
Is it safe to ground the AM tuner to the ground post on the B135?  There is an AM hum I have not been able to silence.  The tuner manual shows grounding the AM antenna to an external ground, but they show a copper rod in the ground and I can not do that.

The ground post on the B135 would connect to the units power cable, which would connect to the wall receptacles ground pin. The receptacles ground pin connects to the safety ground wire, and takes a direct path to the service panel ground. The service panel in your home (if done correctly) connects to a copper rod in the ground.

The tuner is 30 yr old and does not have a 3-prong plug.  That is why I asked about using the B135 ground screw.

Do you have central heating pipes or water pipes nearby? Try connecting the ground to that (to bare metal!), those usually are grounded too. Just use a piece of copper wire or power cord.

You may have misunderstood my response. The B135 ground screw is already connected to a copper ground rod (as outlined in my post). Is this not what you want?
