Your Listening Format Percentages...
« on: 3 Nov 2013, 10:23 pm »
While at TAVES yesterday, I noticed that quite a few rooms were using computer files for music playback, and of course, other rooms were using turntables - come to think about it, I did not notice a great deal of CD players. I could not help but wonder if a change in media demographics is slowly underway - the CDs that I purchased today were from an individual who loaded his entire music collection into his computer.

So what are your listening format percentages?

In my situation, 80% would be CDs while approximately 20% would be iPod based during my daily commute.

Be well...

In my main room it is 85% records and 15% streamed digital or SACDs.

In my office where I use headphones 70% of the time it is 100% streamed digital.

I have almost all of my favorites loaded on Thumb drives which I plug into the BDP-1, I estimate 90% listening. The remaining 10% would be cd, dvd, sacd which I would use the Blu-ray or sacd player.

I prefer using my computer drive if the disk will play as I like using VLC media player (better mid-range sound) and I can control the computer volume output thereby keeping the pre-amp from clipping. :smoke:

All of my listening is done by iPod or Macbook.  I have a turntable and lots of
albums, but it isn't very convenient and I like to move about the house and
not worry leaving a record playing.  The quality is acceptable although I
wish it was better.  The iPod goes with me in the car and I can keep on
groovin'.  I even have a battery operated T-amp that I take to work on
certain occasions.  With my iPod and my pair of A/D/S L300c or JBL Control
One speakers I can groove for another 6 or more hours.

I must admit I was an analogue fanatic up until around 2010.  The resolution
got better and I decided I'd rather listen to my music as much as possible
rather than limit myself to small sessions of listening time.  Just my $0.02.

Home:
LP - 1%
Bluray - 1%
aiff/flac files - 98% most of are ripped from CDs and some are hi-rez files

Car:
FM - 90%
compressed audio files - 10% (from the CDs/hirez files)

Work/travel:
compressed audio files - 100% (from the CDs/hirez files)

My nephew is content with youtube as his main music source.  That one caught me off guard, but probably an easy way to share music.

I've noticed the big-box stores reduce their floorspace drastically over the last year for CDs, maybe this will help bring back a few local music stores.
