OK, the speakers I put in my original post were a little over the top, price wise, for me.  So I'll add a bit more reasonably priced options here.

Geddes Abbey's - great, great speakers that are as absolutely neutral and dynamic as you could want!  mgalusha has a pair and his system is still bar-none the best I've ever heard:

GR Research Super-V's - Super, phenomenal, re-defining bass on these puppies.  Dynamics out the wazoo.  Very neutral mids.  Thought they were a bit bright at RMAF last year, but I'd run them fully active so I could EQ that out pretty easily.

AudioKinesis Prisms - Last but not least!  Great sounding speakers that can be tuned to a room very nicely.  And they have that great "get down and boogie" type sound while sounding less boxy than most speaker.  Where the Super V's were slightly on the bright side of neutral, these are slightly on the warm side.

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't gone to the dark side yet.  :green:   You had a pretty big part in me pursuing the Abbeys as you heard the Abbeys and the Super V's.

Haha, I should add that IMO the Abbey's work best in a larger space than I have, and they really do need subs (a no-go in my living room setup).  Otherwise I would own a pair, no doubt.

Your 15x20 room will be fine..the no subs is the killer though.  If you can't put at least three around the room, as you know it will not work properly.  Get her what she wants and make it happen!   :D

If I could afford to and design a room from the ground up I'd opt for the Sound Labs, also.

I love my SP Tech Revelations and do not find myself wanting for another speaker, but in the spirit of this cool thread, I wouldn't mind either of these in my room:

TAD Reference One's

Just about everyone is thinking upscale. If you took my LS9s away, I think I'd be tempted scale back my audiophilia and go to a pair of X-Statiks or V2's- low cost, excellent sound, easy to drive. Any savings from not having to have a big amp could go into more vinyl.

The original Totem Model 1's. Huge sound stage. The "bass" had good weight for such a small driver. They were fun to listen to every time I went to my local High End audio shop. I have always liked and owned small tube amps so the Model 1's were not on my list to own.

Wilson Audio Duette. I had a pair from an Audio Shop to test drive. I really, really liked them.
(And they are small)

Hey!

Hmmmm.... beside my own now eh?

Well, there is one that I've heard a few times and I think I can live with them long term and that would be....

Tannoy Turnberry.  I've heard these at an AC member, Hogg a few times. Noting fancy or high tech but they definitely have the right tone to my ears. :D If I had money and space I wouldn't mind having these or similar model to that  around beside my speaker now. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Not having heard the Jazz Modules or the Abbeys, I would have to say I have not heard any combination of $9000 worth of amplifiers and speakers that approach the Klein und Hummel (now Neumann) 0410s. Street price is around $9000 in Canada.

Internally tri-amped with 340wrms to each woofer, 160wrms to each 3" midrange and 180wrms to each tweeter, these sound phenomenal.

Check the details on these!    http://tinyurl.com/4ymh6jl

I am dying to hear the smaller line of Vivid Audio...

The V 1.5 supposed carry the same drivers used in the K-1 model.

While WAF is a big question, the sonics are paramount in these designs.

In the realm of affordable speakers I would love to try the following:

AudioKinesis - Jazz Modules or Beta Planateriums

Geddes -  Abbeys + 3 or 4 of the bandpass subs

In the realm of expensive speakers, a few are at the top of my wish list:

Vandersteen - 7's

TAD - Reference Ones

Vivid Audio - G2 Giya

Magico - M5

The good news is that this system cost much less then your current speakers.

That's why he said it's "affordable."

Do we really have to have the Geddes plug in every single thread? I'm getting pretty sick of it.

I'm sorry John...I didn't realize that I mention them in every thread.  Sorry.
