"restored" Philips 212 TT pickup only Boston
« on: 4 Jun 2010, 01:55 pm »
I have a Philips 212 that I restored that I am willing to sell if someone will pick it up in Newton, MA.  I do not have to sell it but will if its easy.
I did a little work on this unit so it is in tip top working order.
Replaced belt
Replaced bulbs for the touch controls (These can be hard to get)
Replaced the power switch
Replaced the power cord with a 3 prong
Replaced the RCA cables with Dayton low noise mic cable and nice rca connectors.

I will let it go for $100 cash.  Pick up only.

I can post some pics next week.

Worth twice the asking price. Not high end but definitely hi-fi. Loving restoration and sensible upgrades. Anybody who wants to play records without going broke should jump on this.

I agree -- cool little table and one which nearly everybody I knew had at one time or another back in the 70s.

If I were anywhere nearby I'd be all over ths.

Too bad you won't ship .

P.S. -- if you do decide to ship, I want it.

Sorry I would be too worried about damage.

I think that is a nice sounding turntable.

I bought one, then replaced it with a Thorens 160 which I bought on the strength of the name, but the Philips sounded better, so I sold the Thorens and bought another Philips GA212. It lasted me until I could afford a Rega.

I had a Beogram 3000 in college. My buddy had a 212. Sure brings back memories. Do you have a pic to post?

Here is a picture of it that I found on my phone.  The auto lift does not work with all LPs but the bulb is brand new.  The que switch also does not work great and I am not sure how to fix it.
