Is it just me or has anyone experienced  a faster more precise base sound between the 4bst and the 4bsstSQ? I am trying out a demo and the mids and his are great but that base seems better as well. Thanks

Not just that, also the differences between the 2009 model 4B SST2 and the 2010 model 4B SST2 are quite noticable.

Thx for the quick response. The system sounds wonderful. I upgraded from a NAD M3 and couldn't be happier.

Jay,

what are the differences between the NAD M3 and your new 4B SST2 soundwise?

My first impressions are at lower volume levels only, but the Bryston provides a much less compressed sound. The NAD always needed to be kicked in to mid- volume ranges or higher to really get the "complete" sound (I'm using Paradigm Studio 100 speakers).

So I guess I'm saying with the Bryston I can hear all of the instruments articulated, even at low sound levels.

I don't have a really solid audiophile vocabulary, but I would also say that the NAD was a bit more colored than the Bryston, if that is the right word for it. The Bryston simply sounds sharper, with instruments being easier to distinguish.

As an aside, I have a play list of songs that I keep for comparisons, same ones I used to audition the new amps and pre-amps I looked at.

Also, in switching out my NAD M3 I also switched out my pre-amp (the NAD M3 is an integrated). So now I'm really comparing my Bryston BP26 and my 4B SST2 to the NAD M3....don't know if the changes I'm hearing are due to the pre-amp, the amp, or both...

cool. so the SST2 design especially made for "the first to the last watt" is not just a marketing thing. it's a proof of Bryston's research for better sound.

I have a fairly new 4B SST2 (after the new capacitor changeover) and I used to have a 4B-ST.

The ST was a great amp. But the SST2 is better in every way. First it is more robust -- it is much harder to get the clipping leds to flash orange. The drive and slam of the low end is clearer, and the mids and highs are nicer on  the ear too, but without sacrificing any detail.
And the music seems clearer when played at low volumes as compared to the ST.

So upgrading from an ST to an SST2 is going from a great amp to a phenomenally great amp.

I have the 4B ST and the 4B SST2 (Pre cap upgrade) and the bass is better as are the mids and highs.  Overall its more detailed yet easier on the ears.  It was worth the upgrade to the sq, version, at least for me.
