Bugle capacitor substitution
« on: 27 Jul 2004, 01:51 pm »
Just ordering parts for the Bugle phono preamp and found that Digikey has a 10 week back order for the .22uf polyester caps.  Is there any disadvantage to substituting a different quality capacitor with the same rating?  I've run into hard-core audio folk who insist on posh caps hand-rolled by Japanese monks.

thanks

Some of those hand-rolled Shinto-caps can sound incredibly good.  And yes, you can substitute other types of caps.  I'd stick with polypropylene if possible, then drop down to mylar (polyester).

I'd go with the BC2062-ND.

Not sure what's up with DigiKey - seems they might be dropping the Panasonic line?
