Title: New Amp Technology from Digital Amplifier Company
Post by: AmpDesigner333 on 5 Jun 2012, 04:41 am
Ladies and Gentlemen (well, mostly gentlemen)....  We've been working on this for more than 3 years....

Name of the first amp series to use this technology is up for grabs, but here is the first mention of Bing Cherry Amp (TM), at the top of our list.  Comments welcome!

This is a scalable (100mW to 10kW) platform with a new modulator topology driving a modular output stage circuit.

Yeah, we really need those specs to come up with a name for the amp series

Sounds great, how about..Cherry Prima.  :thumb:

I think now would be a good time to ditch the "Cherry" name.

Bing Cherry? Really?  :duh:

They could switch the name to Crosby. Now what word would go good with Crosby?

I didn't realise it was the Cherry Amplifier Company...

I think a name other than Cherry is in order as it seems there are already a plethera of Cherry variants.

Cherry Jr., Cherry, Cherry Plus, Cherry Ultra, Cherry Mono, Cherry Mono Plus, Cherry Mono Ultra...

Just my 2¢

Your 2 cents makes a lot of sense if the new amplifier is a different technology.

If its a 'NEW' technology, why use the same name(or derivative)  of the "OLD" technology?
NEW should have a new name/lineage...if you want to stick with the fruit thing, how about Plum ***, or Mango ***, or some other fruit...?

I like Plum. or Plumb 'cause that's what it'll do to the bass!

Looking forward to hearing it (Or will it be them? as in monos?)

If there are op-amps involved we gotta look for the best, after what I've heard from my EE dac.

Yup, we'd discussed this before but it was in regards to a Bass Amp...

As before, I think another "Stone Fruit" or "Drupe" (http://www.fruitsencyclopedia.com/stone-fruits-drupe.html) is in order...

Quote from: Fruits Encyclopedia
Some flowering plants that produce drupes are coffee, jujube, mango, olive, most palms (including date, coconut and oil palms), pistachio, and all members of the genus Prunus, including the almond (in which the mesocarp is somewhat leathery), apricot, cherry, damson, nectarine, peach, and plum.

:D Well that may be a mouth-full, but: Almond, Olive, Peach, or Plum, could be a cool names for an amp. Cool colors for the face-plates too ;)

The first variant will probably be 200W.  It will be a mono amo.  SNR target is >120dB. THD target is <0.0009%. Drive down to 1 ohm.  Low feedback design with ultra low output impedance.  RCA and XLR inputs.  Build like a little tank.

As far names go, I like Plumb the best so far.  So here you have it, just in case, PLUMB Amplifier (TM)!

Higher power planned sometime in the future. Prototypes this summer.  Thanks for the comments.   Keep 'em coming.....

Any thoughts on internal versus external power supply?  We are hashing out this detail now and think offering both linear and switching supply options may be beneficial (external).

Also, 300W may be our new base target, but we'd like to know if that's really enough of a difference to make the design slightly more complicated to accommodate the extra power.

One more thing....  It's possible to add a selector switch for additional control for very low impedance which would cost a slight decrease in SNR.  Is there any interest in that?

We hope the audio community appreciates our reaching out to them for feedback as we complete our design phase.  If there are any special needs that we haven't mentioned, please let us know.  We plan to offer customization, but would like to satisfy our customers ahead of the curve so we can deliver a product that challenges the "usual stuff".  Thanks as always!

Can't help but think this is like aggregate fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries, where multiple fruitlets form the single "fruit" as we know it by.

So, how about the DAC Berry?
