Here are a couple more pre-no-rez pics:

That should do it for pics until I get the no-rez and crossover cover completed.

Ed, the smilie I posted was meant to convey "eyepopping".

Just wondering what you're using for wiring on the sub portion? (maybe it comes w/ the kit) Are you using a speakon connector like Tom?

Finally getting my H-frame subs together. I'm going w/ polyester resin with a topcoat of black truck bed liner spray, which will hopefully be a decent match for my Merlins. (and hopefully hide my piss poor woodworking skills.

I was just messing with you Joe, I figured you meant something like that .

The speakon connector for the speaker end and the male plug are in the kit, Danny recommended I just use the 2' of cable built into the amp, which I did.  It is a bit difficult to see in the pic but the wiring is covered in carbon techflex.

I'm glad to hear you are making progress on your build, after I get the speakers completed and dialed in I will contact you to see if we can fnd a time to have you out to hear them.

Best,
Ed

Ed...

Chris, it was actually a comment that you made on AN after RMAF 09 that pushed me over the hump in decideing to build these.  I had already been using the coax for a few months when I read your comment, I figured you have heard more than your share of good (and bad) speakers and you seemed to think pretty highly of Danny's SuperVs at RMAF, so cheers!

Cool....glad your happy....otherwise you'd be cursing me out.... :jester:

So....yes, invite some people over for a listen when their done.

One point I'd like to make....in the past some have said that the V's were similar to the Linkwitz Orion speakers....they are not. The V's are a much better speaker...in every department.
Listen and compare.

Have fun Ed....

Ed,

Those look wonderful. You are an artisan. I have a soft spot for hardwoods.

Anand.

I couldn't agree more about them being completely different speakers Chris.  Some would say that because they look similar they are the same, using that logic all sealed box speakers are the same as are all ported speakers, ridiculous.  I haven't heard the Orion but I will take your word that the V's are significantly better.

Thanks Hal, I'm having fun with these as well! :thumb:

Thanks Anand.  I really enjoyed working with the Maple, it is the first time in many years I have worked with something other than MDF.  The smell when sawing Maple is much better than MDF as well!

I think "artisan" is overstating my abilities but I will take it for the compliment it is, thanks again.

Best,
Ed

Thanks guys.

No request yet Bob.  I can see my wife's face after I tell her I'm getting into another build, it wouldn't be good to be me at that point !

Tell her you'll give her 20% of the net. That might help.
Again, great job on the build Ed.

Wow!

Those look absolutely stunning! :thumb:  Congratulations on a job well done.
I don't get this Orion business at all. The 2 speakers have very little in common, other than some basic design elements. I would really like to hear a set of these. Maybe some day I will make it to one of the shows where GR is demoing.

Happy Listening

Thanks guys, much appreiciated.

If we can take all of the Orion comments to a thread that is already dedicated to the subject I would appreciate it, it is here:

I was thinking along the same lines - a couple of orange webbed feet out front and black "wings" - and maybe a little bow tie - and the illusion would be pretty complete.

Not sure about the beak, though.

Crossover covers complete
These came out pretty well other than my ongoing tendancy to oversand, here are some pics!

That is felt between the cover and the speaker.  A bit too much trouble for something that will basically never be seen !  I used a kerf cut to bend the MDF around the curve.

Ed
