I need help naming this new speaker...

I am going to do something a little different with this speaker.

I will not only offer it as a kit, but also offer it fully assembled and ready to play.

It uses a P-Audio 12" coaxial driver, one rear firing GR-T6 tweeter, and a pair of SW-12-16FR direct servo controlled woofers. All of this is in free air (open baffle).

Specs are: 97db sensitivity, easy 8 ohm load, smooth impedance, smooth frequency response (including off axis in any direction), flat bass response to 20Hz, and the low end range from 200Hz and down is completely adjustable. They can be driven with any stereo amp or mono-blocks including single digit, single ended amps.

Characteristics of this speaker are that it is fast like an electrostatic, and also completely open and transparent. Detail levels and resolution are good.Vocal range is excellent. Dynamics are outstanding (think scary good). Bass response is (I think) better than any speaker on the market. The bass is way fast and allows for detail levels in low bass that I didn't know were possible. I think I am having more fun listening to all kinds of music on these speakers than any other speakers I have had.

Room interactions and room loading effects are minimal. They even work well in rooms with little to no room treatment. These speakers can be used can be used in a small, medium, or large sized rooms as long as they can be pulled out at least 3 feet from the wall behind them.

I promise that the final version will look really good. Here are some drawings of the final version.

Here is a wire frame one so you can see the structure beneath. You can also see the structure for the rear firing tweeter.

Now, what to call them...?

Hey, if the winner gets a pair for free, I'll definitely take off my Bill Holden autographed drinking helmet and put on my thinking helmet.  :) - Pat  PS - Love my Neos with Hank's baffle work.

Okay, that was pretty funny.

There was a couple that came down from Norman Oklahoma a few days ago to here some speakers. He wanted to hear some open baffle speakers. The guy had already built some of my A/V-1's and was in the middle of building some A/V-3's.

I think the wife that he brought along would rather the speakers be heard and not seen, just like any other wife.

However, this one brought her own music and had really good ears. She listened quite a bit. After listening to these open baffle speakers she really didn't care anymore that they were out into the room. She didn't even really care what they cost. She told her husband that she liked the sound of those open baffle speakers and let him know that they needed some of those.   :D

What a good woman.  :thumb:

In the spirit of the Neo's I think the greek prefix for high (as in high efficiency) would be good:

ACRO

Cobra is an excellent one, I think.  I know it is a departure from your typical naming convention, but it is also a departure from your typical speaker!

Yes, plus or minus only 2db from 20Hz o 20kHz.

Thanks mcgsxr. I am thinking the same thing. This one needs to be more than a model number or designation. It needs a name.
