I've got a Western digital My Passport hard drive hooked up to my Modwright Oppo BDP-105. It is connected by a generic USB cable, which I believe is fine, since I am not connecting to the USB DAC. Is that true, or would upgrading the USB cable make any difference in this case?
Thanks,
Ajay

Oppo 105 is your usb dac.

I thought in my case I was bypassing the asynchronous USB in, as opposed to connecting my computer USB out to the Oppo. Is that not correct?

If you use Oppo's analog out then you use its dac. It does not mater the source is from discs, hdd or network.

So you are saying that the USB cable will make a difference then, right?

You have an excellent Oppo Modwright 105 then why not using its DAC via Asyn usb (the best connection on this player) It is up to you to try a "better" usb cable. I am using Silnote Poisedon silver statement usb cable and very happy with the result.
