I've got a couple of boxes and want to make a general system for in the living room, more side listening. It is going to be really cheap, to entertain guests, etc.

What full range drivers (cheap) can anyone think of that would play a wide spectrum of music? They don't have to play very low as a subwoofer will take over, for that.

I'm fearful I may have to down size to smaller. I'd like to keep a decent extended range since the subwoofer isn't that talented to play real high.

The music will be a range, but plenty of lively stuff.

Looking at a few ideas.

Nice price on the CHP-70...

The seller recommended not using them for this situation, so I trust him.

If HP filtered, and supported by powered woofer(s) I'd not be overly concerned about the CHP70's being able to handle a wide range of music, but would definitely keep their shelved top-end in mind.
While generally not the case for me with wideband drivers this size - I'd certainly want to use them with small tweeter (such as the CSS ERT26 made by Mark).

I guess it depends on what you consider "cheap" -  the Fostex FF85WK is very nice at $38, and likely wouldn't need a tweeter for most folks
