Big Horn Speakers, a Two-channel Audio System by

The Big Horn Speaker
Room Size
14' x 24' , opens in to dining area and kitchen
System Overview
Custom built corner horn speakers using four 18" woofers for bass, a 10" midrange with a coaxial 1" throat tweeter. Currently using a Behringer Ultra Drive digital crossover that I modified and Cambridge Audio 6 channel receiver as power and volume control.
Music Preferences
Classical, Jazz, Electronic
Room Description
Standard living space in a small condo.
Acoustic Treatment
None.
Listening Impressions
Effortless deep bass. Solid dynamic mids and highs as one would expect from horns. Still experimenting with crossover settings and drivers.
Other Comments
This speaker is in a difficult room. Lots of glass and a hard wood floor. Smaller direct radiators tend to sound bright and crunchy, with very lopsided stereo imaging because of room asymmetry and lumpy bass. The big horns pretty much burn through a lot of that with their directivity. Opportunities for room treatments are limited by space.
