Chime 8v supply caps question
« on: 29 Sep 2008, 06:38 pm »
Jim,

The stock 4700uF Nichicons are 25V rated. Will a 16v rated cap work in this position since
the circuit is down to 13 volts?

Dan

BTW, I was able to shoe horn in the Newava S22523 of my Marantz cdp digital output.

Yeah, 16V will probably be fine.  I usually like to give as much headroom as possible.  The Newava is a good tranny.  It is what sets the HAGUSB apart from the crowd (along with layout & decoupling).

Thanks, Jim.

I usually avoid going down in voltage rating, and it never hurts to ask first. Anyway, I'm just poking around at the moment. Not sure I really want to change much in the psu's.

Yes, that tranny really opened up after just a few hours. I also changed out the coupling cap for a good Panasonic ECG and Vishays for the resisters. Don't really know how much difference these two made, but the overall sound is greatly improved. So much more detail and nuance. Maybe the next thing is to upgrade the board mount RCA.
