Mike Pinder, the master of the mellotron, has passed at the age of 82.  With his passing, all of the founding members of the Moody Blues are gone.

Rest in Peace Mike.

I remember my high school buddy I hung around with '78 was a Moody Blues fan. I scoffed somewhat as I had never heard of them, me being a Hard Rock fan. Years later I became somewhat of a fan and even went to their concert in the city, don't recall what year that was, and we had front row seats.

After reading this, listening to Mike Pinder's 1976 album The Promise. Always liked that album, still holds up.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSYismCiX14&list=PLBUXlOLsnpUDs5NGHhd5CHjHvrZ54zU3O

Mike Pinder discussing the mellotron, likely the first version of a sampler.

Sad news, it doesn't get much more iconic than the Moody Blues, and he was key to their sound. Thanks for the music Mr. Pinder, R.I.P. Your music will live on.

I became a fan on the Moody's in the late 70s, probably about the time he left the band.  I didn't know it then.  Of course I was getting into their first 7 albums, as well as Octave, which was new at the time.  What a fun discovery.  My friends scoffed at me for like them - their loss.

I just watched the Isle of Wight concert 2 weeks ago.  Highly recommended, especially if you're a fan.

Mike Pinder seemed like a truly lovely soul.  RIP.
