I am putting together a system system using a Soekris DAC, Behringer NU6000DSP amp, and Tektondesign Double Impact speakers.  For now, the source will be Quobuz via a laptop connection to the Soekris by USB.  The volume controls on the front panel of the Behringer amp will make it possible to not have a preamp per se.

I have about $100 let to spend on speaker cables, and I would really appreciate any recommendations in that price range that other members have personally tried.

Thank you

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

I would suggest you DIY this cable for lower cost.
Maybe copper POCC hard wiring.
Do you need connectors or will use solder?
What are the lengh you need?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I have enough 12ga OFC multistranded cable on hand for the stereo 8 foot cable run I need, and I have gold plated spades, Cardas solder, and a suitable soldering iron for the assembly.  I can do the DIY, no problem, but if there is a better completed cable to be had or $100 (new or used) that would be preferable.

I have liked the Neotech Solid PVC UPOCC Copper AWG 12 wiring from our member Jeff/Sonic Craft but of course the Teflon is better.

But he also have Cardas AWG 14 at $6 per foot.

Also you can try CAT5 solid.

If you can do a small amount of DIY the Duelund bulk wire is very good for the money. No termination needed. Insert stripped bare wire at both ends into the binding posts

I use this cable (16 awg) and it is excellent.  Keep your eyes open on used markets for DIY hobbiests that have bought bulk and are selling off excess.  Will be cheap, about $1.75 per foot.  No terminations needed to save further $$.

Supra Classic 1.6:

$1.22/foot, from Sweden.  I've used it for years with my $3000/pair commissioned loudspeakers to wonderful effect.

Go to bluejeanscable.com and order the lengths you need.  Specify terminations with their locking banana plugs.

You can’t go wrong.  I have used them for years.

Nope, you've got everything you need. Don't waste your $$, rather put it towards more music !!

I got my 8ft cables from Pine Tree Audio, their ribbon speaker wire.  A little over your $100.
Check them out, they do nice work.

One thing you might want to ask is what you are expecting from a speaker cable upgrade? In the scheme of things, speaker cables are icing on the cake, but as far as hugely audible improvements, it may be more effective to put your money somewhere else. Power cables (IMO) make more of a difference, as would many tweaks, so if you have good ears $100 may buy an improvement, but considering the cost of this hobby, it may be a small reward. The other option is buy used, you should get more bang for your buck.
I used to have some Morrow sp4 speaker cables, and then on local Craigslist, someone had a pair of older MIT MH750 speaker cable for $120. I bought them with the understanding that I could return them if I didn't like them. To my ears they bested the Morrow's, and sounded more natural and weighty.
Good luck!

Thanks guys, for the benefit of your experience, and for the many great suggestions.  I guess I'll start with a build of the cables and terminations I have on hand, burn them in, and then see where to go rom there.
