Nostalgia is most often a pleasant experience or in some circumstances, a double edged sword. Today, Lady Laundrew and I started our room renovations in earnest, taking drywall down here and there plus cleaning out my listening room's walk in closet. Buried deep in one corner of my closet was the forgotten components that predated my Bryston/JBL/ Esoteric system. Later on in the afternoon I decided to hook it all up again and enjoy listing to some music from my former Sony/Marantz(CD)/KEF system. With anticipation, a CD was loaded into the Marantz and the "play" button was pressed...

 :o :o :o

Yuck! Within 30 seconds or so, the CD was transferred over to the Esoteric and the Sony/Marantz/KEF system was disconnected and replaced by my vintage DX160 communications receiver- now this is nostalgic.

I am wondering how much it would cost now?
I would love to see my neighbours face when I unload this front of my garage.

PRELUDE gave me a "heads-up" of TTW Audio, a local turntable manufacturer in Newmarket so I decided to drop in while on a much needed day off. Here are a few photographs I took and plan another visit next week when I have a little more time on my hands. Very high precision turntables and they also look awesome.

Did you have enough time to listen to it or you have it planed for next visit?

Basically just drool, had a quick listen but plan on returning. What I find very interesting now is that I am extremely partial to listening to my gear at home and find it difficult to compare how a turntable, for example, will sound on my system when I hear it on other gear.

Went for  a stroll yesterday in a rural cemetery that is slowly surrendering to an encroaching forest - time is fleeting and will certainly erase all. Some of these graves were established in the mid 1800s and it would be interesting to see how much more the forest advances in another 160 years or so.

Laundrew, I'd say that the Sony receiver was the largest contributor to the poor sound quality.

When I swapped out my ancient Yamaha Intergrated with a preamp and a Bryston 4B-ST, that simple change was amazing.  The rest of my system was the same.

All amplifiers do NOT sound the same.
