I presume events and topics of local interest are the fare here?  I expect that some of you (especially Triangle natives) are familiar with Tift (a native of Bynum).  I describe her as the premature reincarnation of Emmylou Harris.  FYI, she's finished her second album and will be touring again soon.  We are heading to The Orange Peel in Asheville to see her April 2nd.  I'm sure she'll be playing locally as well.

Hantra,
Yes, if you are going to see Tony Rice, I think/thought you'd like her.  I think the most impressive thing is that she writes all her songs.  That, and she was actually selling VINYL at her shows!  :)

Tell me, have you ever heard of Robin Ella Tipton (actually Cruz now)?

I picked up her "Bramble Rose" album about 6 months or so ago when I was listening to a lot of Em' lou, Patty Griffin, and Gillian Welch.  It's recorded a little "bright", but the material is great stuff.  She's a little green still.  PG's "Living with Ghosts" is a great raw album.  I envy you guys having so much live music around.  I have to drive to St. Louis (1.5 hrs) or Chicago (3hrs) to "get live".

She's a really sweet kid too.  Been following her (well, not literally   ) for over a year ... longer if you count her days as a member of the local band The Carbines.

h=Hantra, Robinella and the CC String Band is a group of kids from UT (Knoxville) and are one of the top bluegrass bands in eastern TN / western NC.  I got wind of them maybe a year-and-a-half ago,   and saw them open for Kasey Chambers Valentines Day 2003, and again this past summer.  Again a little unpolished, but a lot of raw talent and a really sweet voice.  She sings some jazzy, some bluesy, some country.  I have their indie CD's, and a prerelease version of the one Columbia signed them to that was released a few months ago.  I'll bring them to Carl's if I can come.

Mojoman,
Yes I saw they updated their websites and showed the CC apearance.  I like the Orange Peel and Asheville so much I think we'll still go out there to see her Friday night.  Ever been to the OP?  Great venue.  Used to be an old black music club, then it was converted to a roller skating rink.  fell into disrepair.  A couple moved up from New Orleans (they had just gotten out of the restaurant and music club business, and were simply moving there), and friends talked them into buying it and reopening.  They did a great job, and are drawing really good talent.  I mentioned in another thread that Jerry Jeff Walker and Hot Tuna are there this weekend.

Here's a link to The Orange Peel and here's one to Robinella

Never been to the Orange Peel but it does sound like a great venue.  I do like Asheville very much.  Spent a lot of time there many years ago when I had good friend who lived there but haven't visited in 5 or 6 years.  Looks like it will be two weekends in a row at the Cradle because the North Mississippi Allstars are playing there 3/26 and they're awesome.  Wouldn't mind seeing Jorma and Hot Tuna, that should be a killer show.

I think Shawn said he was going.  I'm on call, so I guess I'll have to catch her another night.

I had planned on going but my wife reminded me we have a dinner engagement with some friends.  Really wanted to see her before she gets to big for small venues.  Hopefully, she'll be back soon.

I just posted a review over in The Music Circle.  There are a couple more dates 'locally' in April.  Any of you who had an inkling to go but could not - you don't want to miss one of those dates!
