This is a very valuable resource; thanks, John. I was amazed to hear the difference between two highly regarded cartridges - the Decca London Jubilee and the AT OC-9 on the first track. The reverb on the voice is much more apparent with the Decca, as are the very quite background sounds in the intro to that track.
Russell,
Yes - Dave's site is a labor of love....he's slaved over that for years with the same tracks to compare everything equally. An engineer he is you know
He hasn't shown himself on the Vinyl Circle in quite some time now - he used to semi-regularly - I hope he's well as he's a prince of a guy.
The London Decca Jubilee is/was actually mine....I sent over for Dave to add to the site. Worst cartridge purchase of all time for me - $2000 of demi-garbage it sounds like to me: bettered by a score of $100 cartridges. I sent over to Decca in the UK to check over (for another $100) and it checked out fine they told me.
The top end isn't simply bad - it's ENTIRELY missing on that cartridge and as for vaunted dynamics, a slightly tweeked Grado (a couple drops of low viscosity silicone on the inner coils and a shibata nude stylus) tears it to shreds in every way I can hear myself.
Anyhow - not a fan of Decca. Want one cheap to see if our views concur (ha)??
John
