Stocking Up on Tubes?
« on: 5 Mar 2022, 03:04 am »
Just bought a back up set of Electro Harmonix tubes. Will be interesting to see if there will be an upcoming tube shortage with Russia sanctions. JJ Electronic are out of Slovakia so they will be available, but as far as I know for 6922's other than NOS that is it. Anyone else stocking up?

I just bought a matched pair of 6H30's to have as a backup for my BAT preamp.  It uses 8 of them.  I may buy more.

Don't know how many they have in stock, but The Tube Store and Viva Tubes have both stopped taking online orders.  Tube Depot seems to have almost nothing available.   Also Nesstone is out of several types.

They are not just out of Russian tubes, but JJ and most Chinese too.

Perhaps after they have a chance to fulfill orders they can reopen ordering.

No problem for me, I have sufficient to meet my needs for at least 10 years.

At this point it’s unconscionable  to buy anything from Russia.  Any money that enters the country only supports the Putin regime and extends the suffering In Ukraine.

Things are news worthy (in the U.S.) for these reasons :
1. The event negatively affects the U.S.
2. The event has shock / scare factor.
3. All the above.

Anyway...this thread is about tube availability and current world events affecting supply. It's best to keep politically light here and not go down a rabbit hole. In fact, it is a forum rule. There are plenty of places all over the internet to deep dive into political chat. :thumb:

I use them.  I swore off the Russian stuff a few years back.  The JJ 6550 has been pretty reliable for me, and longer life than the TS. .I regret nothing  :D

My favorite 6550 is the GE 6550A. That tube can take a fair bit of abuse and still perform.  Has a great sound to it as well.    Too bad they are. $$$$

Did a little bit of stocking up with some more Sylvania 12AU7s coming from a private party and some new Sovtek 6H30Ps coming from a seller on Reverb.
When the normal tube vendors sell out look to the guitar guys.
