Which table would you buy for that money?

With or without a cartridge. . .

A Technics 1200 w/ fluid tonearm damper and a new set of ICs will beat everything out there in that price range--and beyond...

I have a Technics 1600 and I am not impressed by it.  It does have better speed, and pace than the Systemdek, but it is mediocre in most other areas.

Modded 1200, dude!

I have reports of a fully modded 1200 outperforming a VPI TNT and a fully modded Linn Sondek...

I received a copy of the post from Kevin Barett, owner of KAB electroacoustics.  I have evaluated his Beta release of the modded Groovemaster II cartridge and we keep in touch:

Hi,
Here is an interesting post by one of my customers on a website called
audioworld.com

"I sold my Well Tempered Labs Classic in a complete departure from my usual
audio logic and acquired the KAB Broadcast Standard AE. It is the best
analog upgrade I've ever had!! It is the best turntable I've ever used
(above and beyond a VPI TNT-mkIV, Basis, and a super upgraded Linn!!) I use
it with two exchangeable headshells to which I have applied small strips of
sorbothane and under the table I use sorbothane footers. I rewired the
tonearm with Homegrown Audio silver 24ga. I clean my records with a Nitty
Gritty Pro-2 modded for 78s.

For LPs I have a Benz Micro Ruby-II.
For 78s I use a Stanton E500-27 mkII conical.
My phono preamp is now the unbelievably excellent KAB EQS12 that offers 12
different EQ curves for various periods in recording history. As a vinyl
(and acetate, and cylinder) buff, I have recordings that span a hundred
years. Since I will now only play them on a device like the KAB turntable
that doesn't harm them nearly as much as a Victrola would, for example, I
need a preamp that will properly filter their playback. The EQS12 does this
in spades! It is also quasi-balanced, so despite the drop in level, which is
very minor, I can connect it directly to my balanced pre-amp. (I use the
same type of homebrew Homegrown Audio silver XLR interconnects, but with a
mono TSR 1/4" plug on the end for the EQS12.)"

Stumbled across this last night.

So, your "report" was just some post by some guy who plays 78's???
Underwhelming.
I have several reports that the Raintinge product can miraculously restore music reproduction to "master tape" quality.

You need to read again.

Also, there is a review of the KAB tonearm fluid damper in Audiogon (accessories section).
