I am changing offices to a bigger room and I am thinking of adding a second sub. My office system is used 90% for music. I have a pair of JBL 230 speakers and a TBI Magellan subwoofer. TBI subs are known for seemlessly blending into a room, not as home theater room rumblers.

I am thinking of adding a second sub. I want to try a JBL sub as I have JBL speakers but am worrying that two subs of different types/brands won't harmonize. Any opinions?

I have a pair of TBI that I use. They are great subs for music but don't like LFE much, as you say.
Now, I have a complicated setup with some other subs to go lower/louder for movies and to smooth the bass. 3 different subs: an Outlaw Audio M8, an SVS SB1000 and then the TBI. There's no denying that using identical subs would have been easier.
I could integrate them well because I have a measurement mic and software (room eq wizard, aka REW) and an external DSP. I followed the Geddes method described here https://mehlau.net/audio/multisub_geddes/.
It takes a long time but is well worth the effort.

thanks, i think i will get a matchibg tbi, this system is just for music and keeping it simple is good

how big is the room ?
typical bedroom size, maybe 10' by 11'

Do you really "need" two subs in a 10ft x 11ft (small) room? (Except to try getting rid of the bass peaks/dips inherent to a nearly square room.)

Good question, no I suppose not. I saw a great deal on a JBL sub that matches my speakers which raised the question and I have been known to purchase gear I "want" but really don"t "need". I'll bet that has happened to most members. A thread like this sometimes slows down that impulse buy which is a good thing, thanks. :D
