X-Statik Crossover upgrade
« on: 17 Oct 2021, 03:59 pm »
Last year I built a pair of X-Statik which came with the pre assembled crossover and I did add the Soniccap & Mils resistor upgrade.  Now that the kit is sold with a full point to point crossover, I am wonder how much of a difference I might hear if I was to replace my crossovers with the new crossovers.  Would this be a worthwhile upgrade?  Is there another level up from the parts in the new crossover that would be within reason considering the price of the X-Statik?

BTW - I absolutely love my X-Statiks as is…just interested in if there’s another level of sound to experience from them.

My Statiks have the original crossover boards but have been upgraded with Sonicaps including bypass caps.  The easiest upgrade from there is to add outriggers and Isoacoustics Gaia III feet.

Here’s how I did it.

@corndog71 Thanks for the advise!  I’ve thought about adding outriggers but wasn’t sure how much of an improvement they’d make.  Now I need to find a good deal on a set of Gaia.

I agree with corndog - get a couple of Miflex copper foil capacitor, value of .01uF and use it as a bypass on your sonicaps.  Do you have foil inductors?  If not, that might be a good upgrade too.  And last but not least, the resistors can be changed out for the fully copper based Path Audio resistors.

The Miflex bypass caps will have the biggest affect on the sound, followed by the inductors and then the resistors.

@Tyson

Thank you for your response.  Is the value for the Miflex bypass caps .01uF or .1uF?  I’m having trouble finding anything smaller than .022uF.  Also I don’t have foil inductors so I’ll look into replacing those as well.

Anything .1 or smaller is fine.
