Lithium batteries as power source
« on: 14 Jul 2021, 03:13 am »
I was wondering if people here have tried Lithium batteries as power sources, especially for low-power components.

Enjoythemusic was recommending these a couple years ago. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/1219/Great_Audiophile_Gift/Goal_Zero_Yeti_400_Lithium_Portable_Power_Station.htm

I just received these batteries, which I plan to use to power my dac (also has a pre-amp). The DAC's power consumption is about 35W, so the battery charge should be good for a day's listening

First impressions are very positive; better SQ  than the Torus TOT power conditioner I was using, and about 1/4th the price. Are there any downsides to using batteries?

Thanks for any insights.

If power is suffice batteries are always better than raw AC power imo.

OK I discovered one shortcoming in the lithium-ion sources: a built-in fan that comes on regularly. A bit annoying. I guess one could look into replacing with a quieter fan but that would void the warranty.

I use one to power my front end (streamer, DAC, DVD player, phono stage) and the fan almost never comes on. If I plug in my tube amp, the fan comes on quite a bit. Under no circumstances should anyone do this but I remove the top and Yeti will stay cool and quiet.
