in which order to you apply room correction tools?
« on: 14 Mar 2021, 02:44 am »
I am now at the point where I want to try some equalization, timing, etc.  My system is 2.1 with 3 subwoofers.  My DAC/preamp is a MiniDSP SHD, so I can do all of the DSP filtering these tools offer.  It also includes DIRAC.  What is the best sequence to apply these tools: e.g. B, A, D, C, etc.?

A. Front Speaker placement, with help from "Rational Speaker Placement" (Sumiko Method)
B. Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO)
C. DIRAC
D. Sub placement - crawl method or ??
E. REW - frequency response filtering
F. REW - timing and phase adjustments
G. Room treatment

Thanks

1.)  Room size/shape
2.)  Room isolation
3.)  Room finishes
4.)  Main loudspeaker/listening position setup
5.)  Read Floyd Toole's "Sound Reproduction" (ideally both editions) and follow his advice for setup of 4 subwoofers (a 2.4 system)
6.)  GIK 244 absorption panels (full range and bass traps, can be overdone)
7.)  DEQ as needed

I've done all of the above, in that order and DEQ made negligible improvement.  DEQ is little more than a bandaid against the laws of physics.
