A Gibson for some Heavy Metal...
« on: 9 Feb 2012, 02:30 am »
Here is a picture of my new Gibson SG Special 60's tribute guitar.

It has some upgrades over the original with nickel silver P90 covers and new pickguard.

Let see if anyone knows who played something similar.   :D

Yes, from 1970 to 1974.   :thumb:

That is the one this one is being modeled after.  Just a right handed version.

Iommi rocks.

Just last month, I picked up a Les Paul Studio in wine red with chrome alnico humbuckers. Talk about fat tone.

Congrats on the SG!

Yes, Tony also had a white Les Paul SG at one time just like those.

Another person that played a Les Paul SG was Mary Ford.  She was Les Paul's wife.  Her guitar was just sold at auctioned by her family.

Silver nickel plated P90s - that's a new one.
Everybody played SGs - Zappa, Eric Clapton, Todd Rundgren, Buck Dharma, the guy in the short pants from AC/DC, Robbie Krieger, Derek Trucks,  Mick Taylor - the list goes on and on.
That's a pretty guitar, congratulations!

Thanks!

The P90 covers are an old idea from his original SG Special.

Here is a link to the original guitar picture that started as a 1965 SG Special:

Thanks!  I really like the way SG's play!   About the only guitar that feels comfortable to my hands.   :guitar:

My friend used to call that the Satan Guitar (SG), since so many pseudo-satanic metal bands used it.  I had no idea Hendrix used it; he seemed like a Strat guy to me.

Hendrix also played a Gibson Flying V as well.  Sad he left us so young.

And makes for a formidable weapon...

I had a '61 reissue SG for a while several years ago, and it was indeed a nice guitar. I'm more of a PRS fan these days, though.
