Fractal Gates.  Really liking this effort.  Shades of Be'lakor in parts.

Black Sun Aeon - Darkness walks beside me is amazing.  It gets into ones head like nothing else.  Enjoy!

That Fractal Gates is good stuff.   You can get all three of their albums (2 studio, 1 live) on bandcamp for 6 euros.  Heck of a deal.

And I love BSA!

I decided to check out a track by Blind Guardian and I liked it a lot (live version of Valhalla).   I was thinking about giving them a listen and noticed that their discography is enormous.  Any fans that can suggest where to start?

A band I came across a bit ago, but finally realized the epicness of this album.

In Mourning - The Weight of Oceans (melodic death metal with a progressive flair)

I so agree on the "Epicness" of In Mourning.  Terrific album.  Also look at Slumber.  Atmospheric MDM is soooo numbingly good.

I have been listening to Trees Of Eternity lately.   Their music is often described as down-tempo, doom/death-inspired melancholia with ghostly female vocals.  I just found out that the lead female singer Aleah Stanbridge died on 18 April 2016 due to cancer.  She was only 39.  Aleahs voice is haunting to my ears.  A sample of the band here.

Very sad.

Looks like the new recording is out in Nov.  Will have to listen to it, sounds very interesting from the track you posted.

Opeth's new album is officially streaming here:   I'm checking it out.   I like it.  Guys who aren't into the older death metal side of Opeth will rejoice, while those who disdain the new won't likely.  It is a bit more rocking than Heritage or Pale Communion I feel, but still not 'metal'.

Nice.  Did not know they had a latest forthcoming.  Mikael Åkerfeldt just doesn't sit still.  Their Pale Communion has been sitting in my garage CD player all summer.  The only album I'm not a fan of is their first... Orchid.  Still hard to believe they and Katatonia actually came to Buffalo in a 1100-seat venue.  Impressive is an understatement.

Tarantula Hawk

No lyrics to make me turn it off. Vinyl, sound is ok, could be better.

Really digging Insomnium's Winter Gate (a concept album).  It might be my favorite Insomnium to date.

I listened lately to the new Opeth album over tidal as well. Don't know what to call it, but I like it!

Also listened to what seems to be a newly released Suicidal Tendencies album. There were one or two too many "talky" intros I didn't like, but overall pretty good. I didn't realize they were still an active band - they seem to have been around forever!

I'll be on this one after work today.  Insomnium is ridiculously  good.  They deserve way more attention than they are getting in the music (metal) world.  All parameters of their work ... outstanding.

JoshK - right with you as possibly being the fav Insomnium to date.  Stunning.

Getting my dose Death - The Sound of Perseverance.

If you want to see a killer riff, look up Spirit Crusher off that album.  Its the beginning of progressive death for sure, and technical death and likely others.

It is too bad "nathanm" doesn't post on AC anymore, it would be good to have conversations with him now.   I wasn't always so into metal as I am now.

If you have never checked out Death before, I *highly* recommend giving this album a listen.  The band created extreme metal (death metal, but then also progressive death and technical death).  This album is progressive death but also quite technical.   The riffs are awesome.  Its not quite as hard as some death metal bands to follow, but the vocals are Chuck's screeches, which some love, some hate.

Debut album from Countless Skies (New Dawn).  More excellent Melodeath.  If you like Insomnium, this is for you.

I own that one, it is good.

Right now I am listening to Anciient's new release Voice of the Void.  2 songs in and I'm impressed as usual.   I loved their first album and played it to death.   This one seems slightly more mature already.

Have a listen:
