Ripper encounters noise on W2K machine
« on: 10 Aug 2009, 01:19 am »
Just started using my rippper, after passing functions test and loading Audacity to record some LP's.
3 to 4 minutes of recording and suddenly white noise pegs both meters.  Tried several times and finally completed a reading book from a 45.   On the second book, 2 or 3 minutes in...white noise.
It's always both channels.
Switched to Nero and it does the same pattern.
Going to try the motherboard USB as I am currently using the convenient 4 port USB hub in front that has successfully downloaded many pictures.  Didn't know I had any issues there.
I didn't go with the ASIO4ALL or Foobar2000, as that appears to only deal with playback from the computer, and I will use the car and house system for playing discs.
I hope it isn't The Ripper, as I find it pretty versatile.
Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
Regards,
Kevin

I encountered this a lot when I first started using my Ripper with Audacity. In
my case it was a breakdown in USB connectivity. My unit was marginal because
of cable length. I put a powered hub halfway between the Ripper and the
CPU unit with shorter cables and all was well. If your cables aren't the problem,
try switching the port you are using on your computer. You don't want to share
this USB input with other devices like your printer, keyboard, etc. as happens
on some machines with some ports.

I did use my motherboard USB connection last night for a 35 minute run....so I hope I'm successful on that account.  Perhaps the steady stream was the factor over the short bursts of picture info.  (not using at the same time).
Thanks and I will continue to test.
