It was suggested that it would be nice to have a "sticky" with VMPS owners who would like to share their systems with potential owners.
This sticky is for that purpose. Any Owner who is interested in doing so (I have met a lot of great people this way) can post their information below.
I know many of my clients have numerous times welcomed others into their homes for which I am grateful.
Please list your:
Speaker Models and finish
Upgrades
System and type (2 channel audio/HT)
I would suggest not listing phone numbers or street addresses and exchanging this info via private e-mail or PM.
And let me, Brian and all the other dealers thank you, in advance, for sharing.
You can post your information as a "reply" to this sticky

Looks like it has been a bit quiet here lately! I am a frequent visitor/lurker. My hobby for the last 15 years has been home audio with a transition into home theater as things evolved. I am not someone who has to go buy the neatest and most impressive stuff when it first comes out, instead, I wait for it to become affordable and tweaked to perfection before I play. So what if I am a few years behind, I don't want to blow wads of cash doin this. Its a self funded hobby, I sell something to get something else with minimal cash influence...keeps it fun. I enjoy hearing what others have and listening to them also, feel free to ask questions. I will figure out how to post some photos another time, not 3am like it is now.... It would be interesting to share comments and conversation with others, so let's get started...
My system has recently been modified once again to include the following major components...

Things are coming along nicely....
I'm a 6 month owner of a pair of RM30M's that are now dialed-in and presenting a high level of audio magic in my living room. If you're willing to deal with a crusty old man with a beer belly and not expecting to listen to Rap/New Age/Fusion/Crap, we (Honey and I) might be able to kick back wit' cha' and throw on a few tunes....Just be prepared to experience some realistic, in home, in your face audio enjoyment. And you had better come prepared to listen to the Blues. Trust us, you need it.
Audio enlightenment with this level of importance just can't be done quickly. Scheduling 3 hours or more is highly advisable. It is strongly suggested that you have a 12 pack of Bass Ale under your arm and be accompanied by several nubile, young ladys in tight shorts with agreeable attitudes. You supply the beverages and the babes, I supply the jams.
How's that for a deal?
-
OTL,
What kind of amp are you using with your RM30's?
-
Muse 175 mono's...recently factory checked...balanced inputs. McCormanck ALD deluxe pre..CAL Alpha/Delta CD source. VPI/Jr 'table w/Audioquest PT-6/Grado.....sounds better than anyone believes it should.
-
...I should add...
My Atma-Sphere's haven't been tried as yet. I've been working on the three "P's", placement, pots 'n putty....Also of working stupid amounts of hours lately has interferred. Boo, hoo, hoo....However, the day job has recently changed, so, stay tuned.....
I did place my Heathkit AA-121 (an unknown, fuggin' GEM of an amp) in-circuit awhile back for a couple of hours. Very, very seductive but sounded a bit fat and thick in the mids. Tubes? Speaker placement? I've made some cable changes and when I can find the time I'll revisit.....
Trust me....the RM30's reveal all.
-
I'm using Atma-Sphere M60's on my RM40's. Incredible.

I became the owner of audio circle user BushBison's de-horned RM 30's a couple months ago. I've used different models of Acoustats since 1982 and I can't believe I've changed brands. Way, way beyond my expectations! Yes, they took a while to set up appropriately (surprise - what doesn't?). I'm saving now for a brand new pair of RM30's, loaded, or maybe something else VMPS...I'm completely sold.
I run them in a two channel system with:
a pair of ELAC supertweeters sitting on top
a pair of HSU VTF 2 MK 2 subs
Speltz autoformers
either an ARC 300.2 or VTL deluxe 140 mono-blocks upgraded by VTL to 160's
ARC Ref One preamp modified by Great Northern Sound Company, using (currently) a mix of BEL and Amperex Holland E188CC's
Theta Pearl transport and Museatex Idat M DAC (battery powered), both modified to the nines by John Wright
Bluenote Piccolo TT with B-5 Signature arm and Dynavector DV20XH
(currently working on installing a Rega 300 with Incognito wiring and counterweight mod with Pete Riggle's VTAF onto my old Technics SP10
Project Tubebox phono pre with RCA 7025's
Moray James interconnects and power cables, with speaker cables made by a local retailer (Loyalty Sound)
A couple of Richard Gray 400's and a Chang
Various Skylan platforms and tweaks
I'm in Calgary, Canada.
Again, I am staggered by these speakers - I just came back from the Montreal show and didn't hear anything that made me covet it!
Thanks for bearing with me - I'm a very happy camper.

We have a custom designed dedicated Home Theatre that features a beautiful pair of
VMPS Mini Towers II A's. They do have the following upgrades:
Soundcoat
Ribbon Super Tweeter
Focal Inverted Hard Dome Tweeter
Finish: Satin Black
These are employed in a conventional 2 channel stereo set-up, driven by a
Dynaco Tube Pre-amp/Sound Valves solid state power amp, and a 7.2 HT system driven by NAD and B&K electronics.
The sound is as good as I have heard, although we are planning to buy 2 new VMPS speakers (RM 2's) in the near future to upgrade the overall situation.
These Mini Towers, while considered classic in design, are still able to project the overall design philosophy and quality of sound that drives the people at VMPS. Brian's designs have a reputation for extended bass response, however the real value in these speakers lies in their lifelike mid-range reproduction.
Our location is in the North Texas (DFW) area. Come on by, have a listen and you'll see why I was sold from the first time my ears laid eyes on these items!
P.S. In a former life, I was a musician.
Update: RM2's will be here soon and the Mini Towers will be employed as center channel speakers in a "Head to Head" configuration. Stay tuned!

I am looking for a worthy upgrade for my ADS L1290/2's that I've been enjoying since 1986. I was hoping to find an owner(s) of the VMPS RM2 and RM30 in the southeastern Virginia area (I'm in Hampton VA) that would be willing to let me audition them.
Thanks.
-
It's not looking like I'll be able to audition the RM30s after all.
-
I'm not sure if there are any off the shelf cables that will work. I sent my cable to a specialist to get it
adjusted to the correct length.

Did you contact Woodsyi? (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=10789.msg142307#msg142307)
He has RM40's in VA(Washington DC area)
or Zheeeem? (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.phptopic=10789.msg310869#msg310869)
He has RM30s in VA
I have also PM'd an RM30 owner in Vienna VA to see if he is available and open to audition for you.
-
Thanks for the contact information.
I did sent a PM to Zheeem but never received a response. His post is a few years old, so I just figured he no longer had them or no longer visits this forum (or maybe doesn't want to offer auditions anymore?).
I wasn't aware of the other contacts you mentioned. I'll see if I can contact Woodsyi and appreciate your effort to contact the owner in Vienna.
Update: Just tried to PM Woodsyi, his PM box is full. :(

You might see if you can roust Warner who I beleive is in the Portland area. He used to be a VMPS dealer and last I heard he had RM40's.
His screen name is: warnerwh
I think if you CLICK HERE (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=profile;u=423) it will take you to his profile (where it looks like he was active as late as yesterday)
Although, looking at the map, Portland is not "southern". :duh:

I might be weird in thinking this; but if I had your speakers, I'd be running the 626's and LRC up front, with the Tower II's in the rear. Then you'd have matching speakers across the whole front of the theater. Sound quality, with the matching fronts, should be much better that way. If worried about the 626's bass response, use the Larger Sub in the same location as the front speakers. Then, run the Tower II's with a full range setting, on your receiver! That'd be awesome! Bass all the way around! :o
Also, I applaud you for adding your system to the audition list. Even though Brian is no longer with us, selling new speakers, it's still nice to think that there are VMPS owners, willing to demo their systems! Nice! :thumb:
Oh yea, glad your LRC crossover issues have been resolved! Sounding good now? :D

Yes it is sounding good now but have not had the chance to really test it with movies as it is sitting downstairs just waiting for its new home.
