a few flac questions
« on: 12 Jul 2007, 02:01 am »
1. flac files seem to typically rip to between 20 and 40MB, correct?

2. What kinds of players, other than squeezbox (or other seperate devices) are there for flac files? I assume there is a software player for the PC?

3. By the way, could someone list the hardware devices that can be used to play flac files?

4. Is it correct that flac files themselves will always be located on a hard drive, either on a PC, an external USB/Firewire drive, or a NAS drive?

5. Anyone use a gaming console to play flac files?

For more information that you ever wanted to know about flac, see their FAQ page: http://flac.sourceforge.net/faq.html

List of hardware devices supporting flac: http://flac.sourceforge.net/links.html#hardware

Q1 - they generally compress to about 50-55% of the original and 16bit/44.1 audio runs about 10MB/minute uncompressed.

Q2/3 - see flac website above, lots of players, both hardware and software.

Q4 - Pretty much though you can store them on any media cable of holding data files such as a USB memory stick.

thanks for those links - had checked the squeezbox faq...

It turns out that my VLC plays flac so that is a good start for now.
