What's New
« on: 4 Dec 2010, 06:39 pm »
Time to catch up and share with what's currently going on in the shop.  :)

Shipping to California this week is a custom design built for a nearfield listening customer. I'll have pictures later of the graphite finish which turned out really nice. It's a 2-way with a Scan-Speak 5" Revelator woofer and RAAL ribbon tweeter. Going to Australia is a compact 2-way with a Seas Excel 5" woofer and Seas Millenium dome tweeter (another customer in Chicago just built this from a kit). The dollar exchange made it a bargain for our Australian audiophile.  :thumb:

SB arrays and a custom designed dual 15" subwoofer ship out this week in kit form to a customer in Israel. Another array just shipped to California with matching subwoofers and center channel. Seas Excel drivers and RAAL ribbons for the arrays and center channel - hated to see this package go! Another line array design is in progress and quite an ambitious one for a NYC customer.

Next up is a custom design for an Alaskan audiophile who wanted something with higher sensitivity but not sacrificing the things where most HS designs fall short. PHL woofers, Accuton state-of-the art mids, and of course RAAL ribbon tweeters.  :thumb:

Last of all, but certainly not least, well...being saved for a future post

Cool projects Rick. I'd love to get a listen to the Alaskan Special, if possible.

You must be one of RAAL's largest buyers now, esp. with all those arrays!  :thumb:

Yup he was already their biggest customer, I'm betting Salk is a close second now that all their Ribbons are RAALs.

Well I think from talking to Aleksandar from RAAL Jim Salk and I are both keeping him very happy.  :D

In addition to buying larger quantities direct I've also purchased all of the distributor's stock more than once so I've invested more in RAAL than Aleksandar realizes. But it's more about quality than quantity for me.

Rick,

Any chance of you changing your mind of selling Raal tweeter to end-user like myself?

Sorry I cannot do that but I can give you a good deal on a demo pair of the Verita. You could part them out and use the tweeters as you desire.

That's a little expensive for me, can you give me a quick summary of the Raal's spec, e.g. min x-over and sensitivity. Thanks.

Beautiful finish on the Revelator monitor, is it dyed that dark?

This one was tough to photograph - it's a graphite finish.  The picture makes it darker than it really is.

Sorry but no time for listening since my customer needs them before Christmas. I can say that the RAAL dipole ribbon and Accuton should be in your future dipole. They would make a nice combination with the AE woofer.

What does the Alaska design look like?  I'd be interested in seeing that.

Custom design I did for a kit builder - I'll see if I can get some pictures from him.

It was a PHL 12" woofer and Accuton 7" mid so much different than the Tempesta.

Rick:  For good reason the graphite finish on the Revelator got lots of attention, but there was nothing mentioned about the black SEAS two-way.  It looks like an Excel woofer (diameter?) and a Millennium tweeter.  How would this speaker compare to the S6, what would be its best uses (e.g. home theater, stereo monitor), do you recall the cabinet dimensions and do you have the response graphs?  Thanks!
