Pioneer PL-530, Pioneer PL-71 or Technics SL-1200?
« on: 26 Oct 2009, 09:58 pm »
I'm building a second 70's retro system (around a Pioneer SX-1250 receiver and Pioneer CS-99a speakers). These are the 3 tables I'm considering. Thoughts?

I like the Technics SL-1100A myself. Here is mine sitting on top of my SX-1250.

Nice! I'm having both my SX-1250 and my CS-99a speakers restored, and I'll be (probably) picking them up later this week. I'm leaning towards the SL-1200 mk5, but that changes day-by-day.

Then I need a sweet recliner and some sunglasses so I can recreate that famous Maxell commercial.

Don't forget the scarf. I have a spare Technics SL 1100A like the one in the picture except mine has the plug in strobe and no record weight. This table is a one owner still in its original double box packaging. I've never used it. It's been boxed up in my garage for years. Make an offer.

I had a Pioneer PL71 that after around 20 years, developed two problems.

1.  The speed control which used to be pretty close to the middle, now needed to be almost turned almost all the way up to the + maximum, and it took several minutes of warmup to reach proper speed.

2.  The hydraulic arm lift had apparently lost some fluid, and now only picked the arm up about half of the original height and when released, put it down twice as fast.

This is not to say that these problems affect other PL71s, but if you were to consider buying one, I would certainly examine those two functions closely.

I got one of those "Blown Away Guy" Maxell posters for free last year from Maxell. I emailed them a couple of years ago and asked them if they still had any. They said they didn't, but where thinking of printing up another run. It took them a year, but after a year, the poster showed up in my mail box. I couldn't believe they kept my info for that long. The poster looks exactly like the original. I have it framed in my man cave now.

If you hang out here long enough, you'll realize the answer is
ALL THREE
