Yea, I'd just purchase the MS cables and be done with it......The ones with the optical output in the 'housing', right?
I'm using a set of those (with RGB/component going about 30') on a 720P projector and they look great.
I've never tried the MC brand.

I imagine they are indistinguishable.  I'll just get which ever is the cheapest on ebay.

I know you didn't ask for suggestions, but the boy's already gave great answers to your question, so I'll throw in my 2 pennies anyways. 

You may want to look at Monoprice's component cables for the 360.  They're only $6.75 and it does include the optical port on back as well as L/R connections if needed.

I can't remember the last time I played. Maybe every once in a while for a few minutes with my son, but the last time I sat down and seriously played......So long I can't recall.

We bought our son Xbox 360 limited edition (Reach) for Christmas.  It comes with a free one month of Live gaming.  I tried playing it and got a headache.  I need to give up the idea about Xbox 360 gaming.  It is not for me.

I connected the Xbox 360 on my 5.1 channel setup and was amazed in how well the sound was integrated to what is going on the screen.  Works even better with multiple players because of the distinct sound and space of where everyone are on the screen. 

Maybe my son will come out and play.  Stay tuned!

Haven't been playing much lately but when I do its been Red Dead Redemption, Halo: Reach, and NBA Jam for the most part. Actually haven't been playing much online at all due to lack of quality playmates so track me down if you play any of the above (or anything else, really). GT is Bent Wookiee.
