Title: The New OTL Headphone Amp, Natayo!
Post by: Wolf Ear Audio on 25 Nov 2016, 03:30 am
It finally here! After some delays, I present the Natayo (Blackfoot for the mighty Canadian Lynx).
It's a high power power OTL headphone amp. It works amazingly with high impedance headphones, but works very well into loads as low as 32 ohms. Try it with headphones such as the Sennheiser HD800, Audeze LCD4 and Beyerdynamic T1.

Check out the product page HERE (https://www.wolfearaudio.ca/products/natayo-high-power-otl-headphone-amp).

Here's the basic specs:
Power Output: 2 Watts RMS @ 32 Ohms and 3 Watts RMS (minimum) @ 80-600 Ohms.
Output: Single Ended w/ XLR for convenience
Frequency Response: greater than 20Hz-30kHz, +/-0.5dB
Input Impedance: 10K Ohms
Output Impedance: 24 Ohms
Volume Control: 10K Impedance, Series Type 24-Step Attenuator
Driver Tube: NOS 6N8S included
Output Tube: NOS 6P15P-EV included
Power Supply: Hyper-fast FRED rectification, choke input and choke filtered. All capacitors are high quality film caps.
Power Usage: approx. 80 Watts
Voltage: 117V or 230V
Size: 320mm(W) x 300mm(L) x 80mm(H)
Weight: approx. 9kg

If you have any questions, please free free to ask!

EDIT:
This amp now ships standard with a great series type, stepped attenuator using Yageo precision metal film resistors. (picture below)

I still recommend the ladder type attenuator with Vishay Ultra-Low Noise, Military resistors, so I will be keeping that on as an upgrade to this amp.

random question: How do we pronounce Natayo? Is there an emphasis on the first syllable or second syllable? (like the name Natasha is naTAsha instead of NAtasha)
I guess the same question applies to the Makoyi.

I guess it slipped my mind to put in the phonetic pronunciation :)
It would be pronounced [Nah-Dai-Yo]. In blackfoot you will find that many words with the letter "T" in them are pronounced more like a "D" sound. Same goes for "K", which is usually pronounced like a "G". My other amp, Makoyi, would be pronounced [Mah-Goi-Ee].
*Hoping my phonetic spelling is correct. Will fix my webpages tomorrow to show pronunciation.

Cool, good to know  :)
I'd still like to know which syllable the emphasis goes... Na-DIE-yo vs NAH-daiyo.

The first one [Na-DIE-yo]

A bit of a change to this amp. All orders will now come standard with a good stepped attenuator (made in-house) in place of the Alps potentiometer!
This is a big deal sonically speaking and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do. (photo added of this attenuator to first post of this thread)
I will be keeping the ladder type attenuator on as an upgrade option, however,  as it is still better than the series attenuator I am shipping these with standard.
