Title: My Corvette
Post by: CDavis1999 on 6 Aug 2020, 08:35 pm
New member here and figured i'd share my project car a 1969 Corvette with a 383 Stroker and 4-Speed Trans. Built the 383 myself with all Eagle rotating assembly, Brodix IK200 Aluminum Heads, Howards Camshaft, Comp Cams 1.6 Full Roller Rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake and a QFT Brawler 750cfm Carburetor. Painted the car myself as well which was a fun task, went with the Ford Tuxedo Black Metallic color.

Welcome to AC!

I love '69 Vettes.  Definitely takes me back to my childhood.  What is your best guess on hp?

One thing that goes against my love of Chevrolet is your choice of paint - Ford?!!

Funny thing, it wasn't my choice. I told my Uncle I wanted the original Tuxedo Black and he went it his paint cupboard because he knew he had Tuxedo Black and there and grabbed the paint code and then ordered a gallon of that paint code. Well when he got it I looked at the can and was like "Why the hell does it say Ford on it" in which he got embarrassed and apologized repeatedly. So as to not waste my $400 gallon of paint and also not make my Uncle feel any worse I told him it's fine i'll use it. Way too much metallic for my liking but hell maybe it'll grow on me, if not, I'll sell the car and build a big block car the right color lol

Not planning on it haha, just a fun street car. It's got 3.70 rear gears and as I said it has a 4-speed so defiantly will be a fun driver.

Skipped your initial question. I would guess around 430hp or so but not too sure.

I trust you're aware of the potential valve spring issue, hopefully yours won't be one of the affected ones !

Thanks for the heads up.  I haven't heard about this one yet. The car hasn't thrown any lites or done anything weird yet, but it is still breaking in.  No revs above 4500 rpm for another couple hundred miles.  Fortunately it is under warranty for the next six years.

Yes, but you don't want a valve spring to break as it could potentially destroy the motor. If your car is part of the recall I'd schedule the service immediately. Replacing valve springs is really easy and a minor issue, but once one is broken it can be a major issue.

Congrats to team Corvette and Antonio Garcia in breaking the track record @ Sebring today and qualifying on the pole (GTLM) for tomorrows season finale.

Any guesses as to what next year will bring for GTLM, Porsche gone and rumor has BMW will only be running endurance events ?

Is Ford getting back in for 2022 new rules?

2021 is looking like a lost cause in IMSA.

I haven't heard anything about Ford in 2022, but the series absolutely needs another manufacturer or two.

Here's my Corvette ( and any other car I desire) Though it is not as cool as the real thing, I can drive my dream cars in Virtual reality equipped with Tactile transducers to feel the car and road. The Corvettes are some of my Favorites to drive for sure especially the old ones.

Not that I've heard. While the GT was one hell of a ride it wasn't based off a production car, nor was it even built in a 'Ford' plant.

It's nice to see all of the Corvette owners in here.    I've owned four of them so far (2003 Z06, 2006 Z51 Coupe, 2008 Z06 2LZ, 2010 ZR1 3ZR).   I sold my 2010 at the beginning of the year because I needed to shift to other gears for a bit (pun intended ).   But, I have my eyes on a 2026 Z06 convertible.    :thumb:

Have you guys checked out the new Z06 Chevy just previewed ?  Its powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5L DOHC V-8 with a flat plain crank called the LT6.  It makes 670 HP at 8600 rpm and 460 ft-lb of torque at 6300 rpm.  This thing is an absolute "spinner" that would work great in a Can-Am race car.  Unbelievable Magnum Opus of the small-block Chevy V-8.

I'm on my dealer's "list" for an allocation, but it could literally be years before I'd get one.  People have been lining up to buy the C8 Stingray and the C8 Z06 for a long time and Bowling Green can't keep up with the demand.

Yep.   I sold my 2010 ZR1 specifically to prepare the garage and the savings account for a 2025/2026 Z06.   I was very pleased to see the reveal.    :thumb:

Yup!, It's got the GMPP autox tune for the rear diff, ZL1 1LE solid rear subframe bushings and Apex 19x11 wheels with 305 RE71s. For next year I'll add camber plates and rear toe links so I can get a more ideal alignment, maybe do a couple of national level events.

OK, Guys, here is a bucket list suggestion - Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Ranch in scenic Pahrump, NV.  Most fun you can have with your clothes on, LOL !

Well worth the tuition and time if you can afford it.  The instructors are ALL professional hot shoes and they are great educators.  You spend most of the first day on the skidpad and the second day on the track.  These guys can drive freaking fast.  Like Dramamine fast, LOL !

They have very nice condos you stay in and the Clubhouse has Buffets for breakfast and lunch, and open-bar and table service for dinner.

Pahrump is about 70 mile or ! 1 & 1/2 hours form the Las Vegas Harry Reid airport on NV-160.

It's amazing the difference a year can make.  Now we have two Corvettes in the garage.   My mother-in-law recently transferred hers to my wife after 21 years of ownership.  I've been looking after it for the last 15 years or so since she stopped driving it (bad knees), but now it's fully restored (new tires, new fluids throughout, minor bugs fixed).   And, then, a few weeks ago I found a deal on a Grand Sport I just couldn't refuse!   It's identical in color and trim level (including manual transmission) as the ZR1 that I sold last year, but of course without all of the performance bits.   And I can drop the top!    :thumb:

Nice, C6 GS are awesome cars. Been looking at them and C6 Z06 recently. I want to buy a ice powered sports car or two for the long haul while I still can. The Camaro ZL1 1LE is tempting, super fast but also goes through consumables super fast. C8 w/Z51, Magride and 2LT package is about the same price. Not as fast but C8s are so nice, interior is on a whole 'nother level, far better street car and much cheaper on consumables. Then the Cayman/Boxster is ending in '26, Vettes will likely be around for 10 more years or so. Ideally I'd get a Camaro ZL1 1LE right now, a Cayman GT4 in '26 and a Z06 Vette in 2030... but first I'll need a winning lottery ticket, lol.

Recent pic of my SS 1LE... it's gradually turning into a ridiculously fast race car, lol.
