One of kind "Salk" Speaker... Wow1 Big Brother
« on: 1 Apr 2020, 01:26 am »
Hello Salk Circle...

I'm posting these here first as I figure this is where the true fans would understand what these are.

The story begins with my buying a beautiful pair of Salk made CAOW1.  I don't know what the veneer is, but maybe a premium birds eye maple with a darker warm stain.  At the time I also had Salk HT3s, and a HT2C of bubinga, and these matched nicely.

After a while, I thought it would be nice if the woofer "style" matched (I was also looking for a project to do), so I looked into it and bought a new pair of Seas W15CH001 woofers to replace the original Seas CA15RLY.  These woofers alone cost $550/pair new today.

I then reached out to Dennis Murphy (who has done a lot of speaker design work for Salk), who was kind enough to design a new crossover for me.

I ordered quality parts (~$270), and built the new crossovers.

The result is a lovely small bookshelf speaker.  I have used them as primary speakers, mid-field, and mostly as my desktop speakers.  The HT3s and HT2C were sold laster year, but these have remained.  The best terms I can think of to describe their sound is smooth, clear (but not excessively revealing) and simply enjoyable to listen to for long periods of time.

My guess is that these are similar to the Wow1s, but with better bass extension.  However, I have never heard the Wow1s to directly compare.  Similar parts (except these have larger woofers and are rear ported) and I believe the same crossover designer.

I never thought I would be selling these, but one needs to prioritize.

If you are interested, please send me a message and we can discuss further.
If I don't find an interested party, I'll be posting this in the general trading circle in a week or so.

Thanks!

Just a quick note that these are now $1195, and I will consider shipping (but I need to buy all the packing materials).
