I have used a very small screwdriver. Stick it down the side between cork and glass about 3/8" or so, pry into cork, next time 1/2" repeat. The cork will usually start coming out. The danger is cracking chips off the glass lip of the bottle.
I misplaced my last one when I moved. The new ones are such junk, unless you buy a pretty good one.
