Quote from PFO
"Congratulations to you all! Your room sounded great…always musical!...and showed how fine the sound at a high-end audio show can be! I had a great time here…the synergy was excellent, as usual with the ModWright/Daedalus/WyWires room!"
What can I say? Thank You!

If I’d been half smart, I would have spent my entire weekend here instead of wandering aimlessly between rooms. It was just that good.

Two rooms at Capitol Audio Fest Aug 28-30
These will be fun as we have some new gear and prototypes. :thumb:

We will also have our new isolation devices for our speakers and the resonance devices for electronics!
May end up being our best sound yet!!!!
-
We are getting excited about Capitol Audio Fest! :D
Between recent work on the speakers, isolation, improved cables from WyWires and Dan Wrights new work this should be some seriously good sound.
I am especially ramped up to hear the new amp from Dan. About 6 weeks ago he asked me to design and build the casework for his new SE amp, the combination of metal and wood came out very well. David, the machinist hand delivered it to Dan yesterday and the final build is happening now. Stay tuned for photos....
btw here is a fun poster we have to describe the models at the show:

It's here!! RMAF 2015... how many shows is this? I've done every RMAF and it's become a blur of hard work and good times :)
In two great rooms this year with lot's of new stuff, it will be good, oh yeah. :thumb:
We are hoping that we can use the new SE Ambrose amp from ModWright in the Iris room coupled with the BOW, if it has the juice that will be very sweet!
here are the gear sheets for both rooms and the press release.
see you there my friends. :D

Among the new stuff this year are new propitiatory 8" and 12" drivers.
The 8" Daedalus Driver is a big improvement!
We are bringing the BOW for the Iris room to show off our 'total' full range system.
For those that don't know we now have what we call the "real deal" -
a stereo set of BOW with active outboard crossover for $4950 with any speaker system.

Really looking forward to RMAF this year. Great people, great gear, great music, great time!

Totally agree with the "compromise" situation of having the subs IN the speaker... I had speakers here last summer that had very nice and very tweakable subs for the bottom half. They were measured and set up properly. Their best location was literally just a few inches off from what the upper drivers best location was. I opted for best location of upper drivers and took the "compromise" on the low end. And I have bass traps and treatments that I am not afraid to move around and test with upon changes.
Can't wait to hear the BOW's at a friends after he takes delivery!
And I LOVE the "tap list" flyer, too!

Hi Lou,
Congrats on putting together two outstanding rooms at the show. The comments have been extremely positive---sorry I wasn't there to experience the magic myself.
-
What a great room Lou!
It was great to have a chance to meet you this time around and indulge in what I thought was one of the better sounding rooms at RMAF. So sweet and silky smooth while having the most incredibly detailed midrange I think I've ever heard. This was another room where it didn't matter what type of music I was listening to it was just so enjoyable!
I believe it was Sunday morning when I walked in and you had some Celtic musical playing then you switched to Stevie Wonders " Superstition" and it was so lively and fun and then a guy brought a vinyl album of some Bollywood type music and at first I wasn't sure but once it got into it I thought what type of music can these speakers not do? It was really fun and Dan's new amps are out of this world!
I know you posted this poster before but I took a pic because I thought it's just a great idea to explain the differences in your speakers and who doesn't like beer! :D Great job Daedalus/Modwright/Wywires!

^ Nice!!! Thanks T2T. I can read it!
I didn't know I had the porter. And I LOVE porters. It is truly my favorite beer in the fall and winter.

I'll pop in and say that BOTH Daedalus rooms had their best sound at RMAF yet! I'm not a huge fan of solid state amps, so when I saw those amazing 845 SET amps glowing away in all their beauty, I knew this year was gonna be special in the main room. And so it was - the setup sounded the best I've ever heard it and not by a small margin. The Daedalus house sound is one focused on presenting the soul of the music with intense emotion, and not on the bang-flash presentation of almost all the other rooms at the show. This year they had that in spades.
Same thing with the smaller room upstairs using Purity tubed preamp and amps driving the Ulysses. Best I've EVER heard the Daedalus speakers sound in the smaller rooms and by a huge margin. Amazing sound, the room just sang.
Oh, one thing I almost forgot about - Lou demo'd these things called DiD or Daedalus isolation Devices, little wood and metal 'floating' footers that you put under your amp or preamp. Made a substantial improvement in the sound. I'm normally skeptical of woo like this, but damn if it didn't work!

Pez and Tyson's notes on the Iris room:
Tyson’s Notes Daedalus and Modwright Audio Room
General Room Notes – By far the prettiest, classic looking room at the show. Amps and speakers woodwork is flat out beautiful. New tube amps from Modwright this year and a new speaker model from Daedalus.
Sibelius – Sweet sweet beautiful emotion on this track.
Mahler – Man, this room sounds soooooo different than any other room we’ve been in this year. Less focus on the boom and crash and more just presenting real instruments in real space, radiating their sound in real space.
Tom Waits – Organic. Real. Just no other words for it. A real man with a hard life, all laid bare for you to hear in his naked vocals.
Natalie Merchant – This is a downright nasty groovy song and the Daedalus present it in a human, real, fragile, angry, sorrowful beauty. Just such a different sound than anything else at RMAF. I think most vendors go after “hi-fi-accuracy” and end up sounding relatively sterile and cold. Lou always goes after the soul of the music, and between the new speakers and the new amps, he achieves it far better than I’ve ever heard.
Jason’s Notes
So Tyson and I broke into the Daedalus room last night and had our own private listening session last night. Lots of fun and it let us hear things in a way we don't normally get to.
Let me just say this right off the bat. This room sounds better than any other year I've heard it. I think a big reason is the 845 amps. Daedalus speakers LOVE tubes. I had the Poseidons in my house for three weeks. These exact ones. My 8 watt SET can drive them but them but the new amp does better.
Sibelius wow sweeeeeet and incredible presentation. I am astonished with the level of micro dynamics and more detail than I've ever heard from Daedalus.
Mahler not bone crushing bass and dynamics but supremely in control and unafraid to really belt out.
Waits grit but not harsh. Emotionally the best I've heard from any system at the show on this track. That's no small feat. Believe me.
Merchant more of the same as with Waits. Really great emotional performance and a heavy emphasis on what is being conveyed rather than getting every detail just perfect as many systems try (and fail) to accomplish and end up sounding analytic and harsh. Very enjoyable to listen to and definitely the best I've ever heard from the Daedalus Modwright room.

Lou
do you have downloadable versions of your RMAF speaker / system ads and the IPA's?
those flyers look great!
here is an early review - halfway down
for all the systems present at RMAF it's quite an honor just to get mentioned let alone big accolades, congrats
http://hometheaterhifi.com/features/show-reports-film-festivals-concerts/rocky-mountain-audio-fest-2015-show-report-day-2/
I'm always amazed how you use a offset corner of the room at times (2014) for speaker placement
is that because of room dimensions (square, etc) or traffic flow?

This is the Daedalus Audio demo room. The speakers are Ulysses V.2 which retail for $15,950/pair. The Class A preamp is a Purity Audio Design Reference Preamp ($14,950) and the mono-blocks are Purity Audio Design PSE300B Ultra which retail for $22,000 a pair. Daedalus Audio was running a show special through 11/30/15 and the preamp can be purchased for $10,500 and a pair of mono-blocks can be purchased for $15,400.
The room also featured ModWright Instruments Elyse DAC ($6,900) and a PH150 Tube Phono stage ($7,900). The music playing in the room was gorgeous. It turned out that artist Fiona Joy had dropped off a copy of the studio master of her unreleased 2016 album. It was a pleasure to get a preview of the album and to discover a new artist at the show. This system sounded amazing and was one of my favorites.

And here is an [unmentioned] best sound of RMAF...
http://positive-feedback.com/show-reports/olson-rmaf-2015/ (http://positive-feedback.com/show-reports/olson-rmaf-2015/)
Its down at the bottom of the article, when the writer, Lynn Olson, talks about the system belonging to the head of Galibier Design... Unmentioned but cant help but notice those beautiful speakers
-
wow Jason
Major thanks for sharing this underground RMAF Thom Mackris / Galibier / Ulysses article
the shows behind the shows
Thom is the real deal and really stands behind his products and how they seam with other equipment
I own one of Thom's tables - Galibier Gavia - they are fantastic!
I met Thom at the 2011 RMAF where Lou had the V1 Ulysses playing
Thom is an incredible guy who is very passionate about music.
He and the wonderful speakers playing in the background led me the Daedalus way
Unfortunately I didn't meet Lou when I was there
-
Speakers and rack are incredible! I appreciate that Lou shares his talents with the rest of us

A great write up on RMAF from Carol Clark!
This makes me happy!
I have worked decades to bring some of the excitement that one gets from real instruments to recorded and amplified music, when someone really get's it that makes it all worthwhile.
thanks,
lou
-
Neat. Now I wanna go home and listen to that song.
-
Congrats Lou, much deserved!
I'll go with Ain't Nobody - Rufus & Chaka Khan lol
