replacing tweeter in vintage coax for OB
« on: 20 Dec 2011, 11:31 pm »
hello,

I have a vintage coax 12" driver. They really sounded great in my OB set up. Recently, however, the cone tweeter in one has blown. I really want to salvage these drivers, and I'm thinking that a modern tweeter upgrade would be interesting. I need a little more guidance on integrating a tweeter with an OB. The original was a sealed, alnico cone, 2.5" tweeter: Re 7.5 ohms.

Is there any preference to dome, ribbon, horn, cone, vintage for a coax OB set up?

I'm leaning towards these, I'd like to stay under $100 for the pair:

here is the SPL of the coax woofer and tweeter (similar). It looks like a 3rd order XO at about 4000 Hz would work well...?

The low-mids on the 12" really sounded great -- I'd hate to go through the trouble of replacing these only to find out that the tweeter was a large part of the magic...

Thanks for any help.
