You know you're sick when...
« on: 17 Feb 2015, 09:25 pm »
You restring your acoustic guitar and hate the way it feels and you hate the way it sounds.

You blame the strings, thinking that there is something wrong with them even though they're the same thing you just took off. The guitar goes back into the case.

You play it some more and wonder if maybe you're going deaf. The guitar goes back into the case.

You adjust the truss rod and still hate everything about it. The guitar goes back into the case.

You shim the saddle and still hate everything about it. The guitar goes back into the case.

You decide that the guitar has suddenly turn into a piece of crap and what you really need to do is to put it back into the case for a year or so while you play something else.

You then realize that you've stupidly reversed the D and G strings.
You reverse the strings, decide that the guitar is still quite wonderful and that the antibiotics are kicking your ass.

The guitar goes back into the case and yes, you're still sick.

Most of the day, on and off.
These antibiotics are brutal.  This is what is printed next to the dosage:

Warning: May cause diarrhea several weeks or months after last dosage.  Consult a physician.

After my eyes bugged out I just had to laugh.

A short course of a good probiotic after you have finished your antibiotics should have your colon back to normal in no time.

Maybe yes, maybe no.  Not much conciseness in the medical community.

But it won't hurt and it just might help.

ALWAYS take probiotics with antibiotics.

They rebuild all the good flora and fauna that are a normal part of your gut (and healthy digestive system) that are killed by the antibiotics.

It takes a while for your system to rebuild the helpful flora and fauna in the gut after antibiotics on its own. I'll bet the diarrhea is caused by the period of time that it is taking the gut to rebuild its friendly flora and fauna on its own.

I am kind of surprised that your doc did not mention taking them.

I'm kind of surprised that he's still allowed to practice medicine!
I'm going to get an MRI and a referral to Hershey ENT because I know where this is headed.

Holy....um....crap! Those antibiotics must be the equivalent of dropping an A-bomb in your gut. Weeks or months of diarrhea sounds awful and dangerous. I suggest talking to your pharmacist any time you pick up a new medicine. I know your....um....gut instinct is to just grab your medicine and leave, but pharmacists are very knowledgeable about the meds they dispense, even moreso than Doctors in many cases. The good ones will actually advise you or recommend things for you (to help ease the unwanted side-effects) and/or will consult with your physician about switching to a better choice of medicine or combination of meds with less harmful side effects.

Interesting article from ScienceBasedMedicine.org:

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/ive-been-prescribed-an-antibiotic-should-i-take-a-probiotic/

From a meta-analysis of 82 studies, which included almost 12,000 patients.

"Those taking probiotics had a 42 percent lower risk antibiotic-associated diarrhea."

Are you an MD?

Last time I heard a self-medicating regimen like that was from an MD who confided in me that whenever he felt something coming on he would go get a mickey of scotch, drink the whole thing and fall into bed. He said he always felt great the next morning!

These are my kind of cures–at least they were when I was a little younger and single.  :(

If nothing else, my sinuses started draining a few days ago and I'm about to lose my winter layer of protective blubber, just in time for Spring.
Kind of a rough way to lose weight, though.

Your ears are probably all messed up and ya ain't hearin right anyway.
Must be something about bein sick and changing strings. I got the sinus crud
(just gave it to my wife) and I do believe it is a sort of virus and antibiotics don't
work though docs are still puttin people on em. Anyway, changed strings on both
my guitars today also and couldn't get close to proper pitch note for any of the strings.
Everything sounded es-cued, even with the tuner.
