Bryston BP2.5 cubed discontinued
« on: 10 Feb 2024, 09:12 pm »
Hi,

It seems the 2.5 cubed is discontinued.  Is a new unit on the way, or was it just cut from production?  I was thinking to replace my 20 year old NAD power amp with the 2.5 cubed, the 3 cubed it more $ :(

Thanks

HI

Yes discontinued.

No plans for an immediate replacement.

Yikes, the B135 too.  So no integrated amps at this time?

Hi

Thanks for the info.  I'll use my Bryston BHA-1 as a pre-amp.

Yes we are just waiting to finalize the Phono stage and we should be ready to start production.

Hi James.

Is (was) there a sonic difference between the 2.5 and the 3?

The circuitry is the same - the 3B has double the power supply size and double the output transistors.

It is sad the 2.5b has been discontinued. It was a nice amp for those with high efficiency speakers. My speakers play 96db with a 1 watt input at 1 meter. I cannot crank it up pass -25 db on the volume knob on my SP3.

Yes we are just finalizing the design - should have a prototype to show soon - here is what it will look like.

Hi James.

it would be interesting to have a sticky post to discuss the development of the Bi200 insteadof this discontinued BP135 thread. What do you think?

This is timely.

I'm looking to acquire a used nB3 to replace a pair of 20 yr old Tag McLaren M125 monos.

I can get a 6yr old 2.5B3 with warranty, or a 4B3 without warranty (user has lost receipt and it's an early model with no manufacture date on rear).

My setup is: BP26/MPS-2, BDP2, BDA2, Linn LP12, PMC OB1i speakers. I play mostly at low level due to busy household/shared space. Listening space is small @ 2m width x 3.5m length.

I know it's not ideal to buy without listening, but I can return either for full refund if I'm not happy. Also, I know no one can tell me which will sound better. Reaching out because I just don't know which one to choose. Any words of wisdom?

Thanks

Based on your listing habits and listening room dimensions alone I can't imagine you'd need anything more powerful than the 2.5B3.

FWIW, my 2.5B3, front ended with a BR-20, drives a pair of Focal Aria 936's (92db) to very satisfying levels in a space considerably larger than yours. I doubt you could go wrong with either the 2.5B3 or the 4B3, but the 2.5 sure seems to fit your current needs.

Dan, as you're an owner of a 2.5b3 I appreciate this info. It supports my gut feel having done some research. I probably wouldn't take advantage of the 4B3 extra power, as you state.
