Approach to Mono masterpieces.

I have purchased a boatload of very fine Mono classical recordings (200) from Angel to Red Seal to Masterworks. All from 1955-60, all in great shape. How do you guys play Mono for full effect. I was thinking about a decent MM cartridge with a 6 or 7mil aftermarket conical needle. Do you guys take that approach or actually purchase Mono carts.  Cheers.

Absolutely, a mono cart is the best way to get the real depth out of the recordings, and the best way to stay clear of noise and dirt that the deeper traveling stereo needle will make audible.

Start with a modest Grado if you don't want to commit too much money.

I have a related question; i own a collection of 78's, with nothing to play them with.
what do i need to look into: phonopreamp? TT? pickup? can i possibly use the same TT (Icurrently use the Townshend Rock, which unfortunately does not allow the speed, but living in Switzerland still allows to find some early Thorens 124, but would i need different tonearms and pickups?

thanks for your help!
