How can I get a 360?
« on: 11 Oct 2005, 11:22 pm »
Drats! :x   Due to a combination of long hours at work, and pure laziness, I delayed in attempting to reserve an Xbox 360 until it was too late- all the stores in town have sold their allottment of preorders.  Can anyone suggest a place where I might be able to buy one when they launch?

If not I guess I'll wait- I won't have much time to game til around January anyway.

Toys R Us is apparently not entirely sold out on their pre-orders yet.

I heard that you should not expect any shortage of these. You should be able to walk into a Wal-Mart and get one .

I second that last answer.  Don't count your chickens lost until the fat lady sings.  I will most likely find one in Asia, you know that 220v thang has fried my original xbox.
If you want one before x-mas you might have a problem.  After that I don't think so.  Just my 2 cents

The media has definitely blown 360 problems way out of proportion to how often they are actually happening.

My guess is that less than 1% of users are actually having problems - and Microsoft is paying shipping on problem units.

I don't think people are accounting for the heat generated by both the unit and the power supply.   It does appear that Microsoft was not able to make it user-friendly enough in that regard.

I was lucky enough to get on a preorder list last summer - but ended up selling mine on *bay along with 50k others.   They are still going to be in short supply until next year.

The Japanese launch pretty much flopped - there are units on the shelves there that would have sold in the US/Europe.

Hoping to get one in Feb/Mar now - (for the kids, wink wink)

The media may be blowing the problems out of proportion, but unfortunately both people I know that bought one had it crap out within a day.  They sent it back and have now received replacements, but this has to be a PR nightmare for Microsoft.

I'm glad I didn't get one, actually.  Sounds like the problems are a lot more widespread than MS wants to acknowledge.  Undoubtedly I'll buy one, but now I'll probably give it a few months to let them work the bugs out.
