new 'bookshelf' speaker needs a name?
« on: 20 Feb 2011, 05:43 pm »
I'm finishing up the first set of a new model here and am pretty excited about this.  like any new baby it needs a name, so I'm open to suggestions....
the details:

it's a three way based on one of my pro monitors, using the Daedalus 8", a custom built 5" and the Eton tweeter which I use in other audio systems. the crossover is  voiced for a slightly more 'British' sound, a little extra body.
solid wood with BB ply baffle & rear, mirror image pair with 12 deg. angle on the front.  cabinet size is 25.5" X 11" x12.75" with a front port, so it can be used as a rear speaker or even on a .... bookshelf
btw the impetus for this has been building a complete Daedalus 5.2 system for a customer!

Look at lists of names for cars (tons spent on them), babies (new/wild ones come out everyday), and paint colors (must be the fumes, but these are the "best").   :icon_lol:

Watching the Boston Celtics Glen Davis nicknamed the (Big Baby),and a freind of mine thats half the size of his burley brother, who played football for the Portland Bulldogs,(The Baby Bull)which I think might be a good name for your smaller book shelf speaker...Mark Korda.....the BABY BULL!

Icarus is good. If you were going to follow the classical Greek references, them we will have to rename the DA-R Ma. Whatever happened there Lou. Should have been the Hector or Agamemnon, following on from the Ulysses.

Woden http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%8Dden#Anglo-Saxon_Woden or Thunor would be good Anglo-Saxon deities.

DA-RMb, DA-RMm (Reference Monitor mini). that is if you wanted to stick with the abbreviation code style for all except the mighty Ulysses.

yes DA-RMa was a divergence, I have a sitting meditation practice and hence the pun on Dharma.

I'd like to follow the Greek mythology, was thinking Muse for the bookshelf, afraid the crash and burn connotations of Icarus may not be auspicious.... but still Icarus is a temptation...
thanks,
lou

If you're staying with Greek references...how about SIREN?  The sound no man could resist.

I would have to agree with Lou on avoiding "Icarus" - to those that are familiar with the story it would not evoke a positive/success or anything to do with music either.

I do like the name Muse. Quite a lot actually.

The Siren, Odin, Thor, etc are all good options which in my mind would be reserved as an option for the rumored full range reference that may appear in the future as the model above the Ulysses down the road...

There are two companies in the audio industry named Muse, this may create some confusion.
