Wii Repair

Hi all, I know about as much about gaming consoles as I know about splitting atoms, but here's the deal.

We got a Wii as a gift  to our daughter's family a couple of years ago, now it won't accept or eject discs...I suspect the DVD drive is faulty. I feel confident in disassembly and replacing parts and there's some listed on Ebay, mostly refurbs or take outs, it appears, so I'm imagining that OEM parts like this are not widely distributed.

Nintendo is cryptic about repairs on their website and instead of a flat fee which I would expect, they seem to encourage you to send to them first.

Googling leads me to what appear to be independent repair facilities but I know nothing about this market.

Would appreciate recs on best approach from those more familiar than me.
