Polling the audience: what streamer do you use?
« on: 2 Jul 2020, 09:04 pm »
Hypothetically, I may be upgrading my streamer and selling the Bryston, primarily to see if I can find one that will automatically handshake, and maybe upgrade a little at the same time.

If cost were no object, what would you guys be using?  So far, I'm looking at dCS, Innuos, Auralic, Goldnote, Lumin, Naim, Cambridge.  I am entertaining any device that is streamer only, no DAC.  The last two I had were a MicroRendu and the current Bryston BDP3, both excellent products.  Just looking to branch out.

Adding a pool at the bottom to try and merge these threads, and I sincerely apologize.

Not meant to be a sign of approval, but just adding for sake of other options: Merging NADAC, Grimm MU1, and whatever Linn has to offer.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

In the main system, I use a Lumin U1 digital file transport (into my EMM Labs DAC2X).

I've been using a Sonore Microrendu with JRiver software, but am looking to upgrade to one of the following:
- Sonore Ultrarendu
- SOTM SMS200 Ultra
- Lumin U1 Mini
Any feedback on these or others 2 grand or less would be greatly appreciated! All of my music is on an external drive.

I use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with a HiFiBerry Digi+Pro HAT with the PiCorePlayer 6.0 software. In a separate room I have a Linux PC running LMS 8.0 for my own collection and my Qobuz account. Rock solid and sounds great.

Roon running off an Intel i9 streaming to Raspberry Pi 3B+ into a Benchmark DAC3 and an RME ADI-2.

It certainly doesn't qualify as "cost no object" kit, but I've been super happy with the sound I get from (through?) my Bluesound Node 2i.

Pretty much the same hardware wise. I use the Hifiberry OS on my Pi, and then have Roon instead of LMS on my linux box. I concur, it sounds great.
