James,

Is there any documentation on the specs of the transformers used in Bryston amps (kVA)?

James, are you hiding or did you finally take a vacation?  :peek:

Nice catch.  The testimonial doesn't directly indicate that Bryston has used or is using their transformers, but it is intriguing given the 20 year warranty (and they are based out of Canada).  I couldn't find a date when it was posted.  Hopefully, James will chime in at some point with further details.

Sweet close up Levi!   :D   I guess that answers the Plitron question.

What I'm trying to get to the bottom of is exactly how many volt-amperes (kVA) are made available via the Bryston SST line (and ST line since I own a 3B-ST).  As I understand it, wattage is not the single factor to take into consideration when determining how easily an amp will drive a speaker.  In essence, I'm attempting to gain a more educated understanding (mathematically speaking) on Bryston's amps.

KJ,

Can you open up your amp?  You may need a Robertson driver.  I don't think opening it to take a look will void your warranty. :D

I read through the schematics, but I wasn't able to determine the overall output.  My lack of electrical engineering probably doesn't help.

I was hoping to find something similar to what Julian found in the following thread:

Hi;

Bryston doesn't normally publish specs for our transformers, because there are several ways to measure the power rating, which can lead to confusion.  We use continuous ratings, and in that respect the transformers are generally capable of twice the total rated power of the amplifier in which they are installed, (e.g., the 4B SST uses two transformers rated at 600VA each).

   I hope the above is helpful.  Thanks for your interest in Bryston audio components!

Sincerely,
Chris Russell
