Omegas - speaker magnet impressions under laminate.
« on: 24 Jan 2019, 12:42 pm »
I'm curious if any other Omega owners have noticed this on the cabinets. Each magnet under the laminate creates an impression.
Can be seen at different viewing angles  :o.

I just got off the phone with Louis and he indicated its just telegraphing my dark finish. Nothing to be alarmed about.

Not on mine...

Finishes can be weird though, and nobody can account for everything. Even automakers get mismatches in color depending on surface on some colors... i.e. the hood doesn't exactly match the front bumper, etc.

Not on mine either.  I don't use grills though.  I wonder if using grills, with gentle but constant force pulling the magnets outward, could increase the chances of this happening.  Also, different veneer is of different hardness.  I have zebrawood, which I think is supposed to be pretty hard and rigid.  Maybe other veneers are a bit softer?  All speculation.

Is there any way you could give us a picture?  I've had multiple Omegas in both laminate and veneer, but never seen what you describe.  Is it an indent in the surface or a bump sticking up?  What finish do you have?

Great photo. That is exactly what I have. Mine are 18-month old Omega Super Alnico High Output XRS tower speakers with the Level 2 Finish - real Ebony Quartered Macassar veneer.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the posts and the discussion regarding the magnet impression. The magnets are countersunk in the front baffle and reinforced. The veneer or laminate is then cold pressed. Sometimes an impression are telegraph can occur, and darker colors can show it more.

Nothing to be alarmed about.

Thanks again,
Louis

100% agreed. Nothing to see here. It's only visible in certain angles and light conditions. And of course if you keep the grills on you don't see it at all. Non-issue IMHO.

And look at it this way ; What is more livable? Very light magnet impressions or those ubiquitous, ugly, and easily broken grill pin type attachments?

I've got a better solution. Just leave the damn grills off my beautiful OUTLAW SUPER 3U 1.5 in EKO Zebrawood 3D Laminate speakers!  :green:

Goosepond...um...you might read the OP's first post as well as the subject line. He's using the speakers without the grills as I think most of us Omega owners do. The issue isn't the grills themselves. Doody posted a pic.

I want to let everyone know here that my intention was to find out if this would be an issue. Louis informed me that this isn't anything to worry about. I bought used and wasn't aware of this. The speakers and workmanship are stellar. I appreciate the time Louis put into these and have nothing but praise. The Omega speaker line will stay close to my side for many years.

Thank you Louis for an outstanding product.

Regards, Kim
